What part will you play?

  • GAF Energy is seeking an Applications Technician to install specialized residential solar roof products to harvest energy from rooftops.
  • This role will report to the Design Applications Engineering Manager, with project supervision by the Design Applications Engineer III.
  • The ideal candidate must have a hands-on, can-do approach to projects, and possess the ability to work quickly and accurately under pressure.
  • Strong construction skills, especially roofing, as well as electrical and solar skills, are preferred. Attention to detail, and ability to complete work independently.
  • You will be assisting various teams, primarily at the San Jose campus, while actively prepping, installing, and disassembling R&D installations.

What will you be doing?

  • Reporting to our San Jose, CA facility every day with occasional off-site visits for demo builds and training.
  • Prepping roofs for installation of roofing and solar products.
  • Determining the type and quantity of materials and tools needed to install roofing and solar.
  • Operating scissor lifts, forklifts, material hoists, and hand trucks to stage materials at job sites and on roofs.
  • Setting up, securing, and striking ladders.
  • Using Personal Fall Arrest Systems and installing safety anchors.
  • Working in coordination with R&D engineers, factory technicians, field deployment, and electrical services teams.
  • Following installation plans to install roofing and new solar technologies.
  • Working with hand tools and power tools.
  • Reporting on work progress and building discoveries to stakeholders.
  • Working closely with R&D engineers.
  • Supporting facility needs such as roof and building maintenance and general housekeeping.
  • Building roofs and roof test fixtures to perform testing.

What do we require from you?

  • Punctuality and good timekeeping.
  • 1+ years experience in roofing and/or solar construction.
  • Hands-on construction skills with hardware, tools, and measurement techniques.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license, preferably with a demonstrated record of safe driving.
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively within a product development engineering organization. This includes good written and spoken communication skills.
  • Microsoft Office or Google Suite experience.
  • Problem-solving skills and an aptitude for learning quickly.
  • Ability to manage simultaneous activities and challenges.
  • Ability to complete assigned work while following established safety practices.
  • Willingness to travel when required.
  • Experience working at heights (rooftops) following safety practices.
  • Possess or be willing to obtain forklift and scissor lift certifications.

Additional qualifications (not required)

  • OSHA 10, 30, or other safety certifications, preferred but not required.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to wear safety equipment (weighing up to 15 lbs) and perform work at heights.
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to climb ladders and/or stairs.
  • Must be able to walk, stand, and maintain balance on sloped surfaces such as roofs.
  • Frequent sitting, walking, standing, and occasional climbing; stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and balancing is required.
  • Frequent use of eye, hand, and finger coordination enabling the use of tools and equipment is required.
  • Communication verbally in person and through automated devices (such as a cellphone).
  • Must be able to wear safety equipment and perform work in a production environment.
  • Ability to walk, lift, carry, grasp, bend, reach, kneel, and climb stairs and ladders.
  • Ability to work in standing operations for long periods of time.
  • Specific vision abilities including close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.

Individuals hired for this position can reasonably expect a base hourly rate within the range of $27-35/hr

Pay: $27.00 – $35.00 per hour
