Job Description

AD Energy is looking for an RNG Compliance Engineer to support our clients RNG project operations and business activity from a compliance standpoint.

This includes reviewing the feasibility and design of future facilities, as well as existing operating facilities, with a compliance lens.

Compliance includes maintaining the facilitys status with existing or future permits, monetization programs (RFS, LCFS, ISCC, etc.), and PSM and RMP programs (EPA, OSHA).

The role requires data analysis and data correction of compliance-critical instrument data, as well as coordination with program verifiers, validators, and consultants.

Direct coordination with operations personnel and internal and external engineering resources is required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned):

  • Prepares process flow diagrams and mass and energy balances.
  • Is familiar with compliance aspects of RNG generating and dispensing facilities.
  • Stays up to date on policy changes affecting RNG monetization.
  • Is highly familiar with carbon intensity modelling of renewable energy projects.
  • Is familiar with process instrumentation and reliability.
  • Familiar with data quality and assurance.
  • Perform GREET modelling, write LCA reports, and facilitate with pathway submissions in existing and future clean fuel programs.
  • Regularly draft, review and update all necessary Compliance Management Plans.
  • Manage and update the operational carbon intensity (CI) of existing and projects.
  • Engage and represent company with the CARB and EPA, including participating in workshops, writing comment letters, and providing regular updates to management.
  • Review and oversee the filing of regulatory reports and audit responses.
  • With Distributions operations team, identify opportunities to optimize and de-risk our RNG portfolio, in addition to researching new markets to pursue using RNG.
  • Contribute to ongoing composition of our compliance Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) that covers all steps required to submit and validate pathways, perform verification services, meet RFS deadlines, etc., ensuring regulatory adherence and internal procedural improvements.
  • Perform CI modelling on prospective RNG projects during investment due diligence.
  • Liaise with Upstream, project developers/operators, and consultants on RNG project investments.
  • Review RNG project drawings, schematics, and deliverables for compliancy adherence.
  • Assist the operations group in the collection and analysis of project operational data to be used for LCFS credit and RIN generation.
  • Ability to remain flexible, work with a dynamic team, maintain excellent organization, and perform other duties as assigned.
  • Stay abreast of proposed changes to the RFS and LCFS, providing regular updates to the team.
  • Assist with LCFS pathway submittals, verification statements and updating monitoring plans.
  • Create a set of procedures to manage and govern companies LCFS and RFS obligations.
  • Work with external auditors on matters related to audits of companies sales and compliance procedures.
  • Engage and represent company with the California Air Resources Board (CARB) and U.S. EPA.
  • Identify and manage consultants providing regulatory support to company.
  • Monitor RIN and LCFS markets for regulatory changes that will impact our business, along with opportunities company can pursue outside of just RNG to natural gas fuelling.
  • Assist the biogas operations group in the collection of adequate data for certifying and monetization of RNG in the clean fuel programs we participate in. Support efforts to collect data from project partners.
  • Support the biogas operations team with internal and external compliance audits.
  • Assist with our compliance Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) which covers all steps required to submit and validate pathways, perform verification services, and meet clean fuel program deadlines, etc.
  • Analyse renewable energy markets, including the LCFS and report the overall performance of all renewable fuels participating in the market.
  • Demonstrate a drive for constant improvement and attention to detail in all work products put forth.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education And/or Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in engineering from an accredited University, 3-5 years of related experience and or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. A Bachelors degree in environment or sustainability engineering would be preferred.
  • Knowledge of Database and Project Management software, Mechanical, P&ID, and Electrical engineering design and concepts. Solid experience with AutoCAD Design software. P&ID experience is strongly preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is a strong preference.
