You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. Support the growth of clean energy at scale across the Western US and Canada with the AWS Energy Team. In this role, you will originate, structure and negotiate energy contracts across AWS regions and create innovative supply structures scale our renewable energy portfolio. The candidate will identify key market conditions, regulations, and market structures to help evaluate opportunities. The optimal candidate will be a passionate self-starter, have a results orientated approach, analytical skill set, and strong financial acumen.

Function Specific Work Activities

  • Support the development and execution of a comprehensive renewable energy and utilities strategy for AWS data centers
  • Lead energy contracts that create new clean energy capacity on the grid
  • Work collaboratively with Amazon Infrastructure team to support new data center region planning
  • Analyze trends and regulations in the energy space to proactively identify opportunities that benefit Amazon

About The Team

The AWS Energy Procurement Team is responsible for delivering energy deals that reduce our Scope 2 and Scope 3 carbon emissions, working backwards from Amazon’s Climate Pledge.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree (BA/BS) required- Economics/Engineering/Business
  • 5+ years of experience working in the renewable energy/utility/energy industry
  • 3+ years of power transaction or contracting experience in US West (CAISO, WECC) energy markets

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree (MBA/MS)
  • 8+ years of experience in energy markets, energy trading, power contract negotiations, energy regulations, renewable development, or energy generation technologies
  • Proven ability to evaluate new energy markets, utility tariffs, policies, power contracts, or evaluating new energy sourcing opportunities and technologies
  • Familiarity with renewable credit programs, renewable project development, power forecasting and scheduling, portfolio management theory, advanced energy storage, or alternative energy resources
  • Experience building relationships and working with industry stakeholders, such as utilities, regional power planning agencies, renewable project developers, project investors, and renewable OEMs
  • The ability to manage and prioritize multiple simultaneous projects with minimal direction
  • Proven track record for cultivating strong relationships with internal stakeholders, vendors, or customers

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $133,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $220,100/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
