Position:
Quality Assurance Technician
Location: Canaan, CT
Compensation: $28/hr – $31/hr
Shift Requirements: The Quality Assurance Technician will be required to work on the Relief Shift that involves working on a rotating schedule of 1st, 2nd and 3rd shifts each week.

Responsibilities:


Primary Duties & Responsibilities
  • Conducting internal auditing (both formal processes and random auditing)
  • Verify the effectiveness of corrective actions resulting from nonconformances
  • Tracing product non-conformance and coordinating communication both internally/externally
  • Document and coordinate supplier corrective actions
  • Collection and analysis of QA data relating to plant trials
  • Input and maintenance of EtQ documents and databases
  • Substitute/Backup lab technician and scale operator as follows:
    • Performs physical tests/analysis on powder and steel samples to ensure compliance to purchasing specifications
    • Performs physical tests/analysis on limestone samples to ensure compliance to customer specifications
    • Records data from test results in computer system
    • Reports any issues/concerns with specifications of product to the supervisor on duty
    • Generates Certificates of Analysis
    • Weighs trucks using the scale to ensure weights are within proper limits
    • Tracking truck overloads and facilitating internal communication
    • Performs inspections on (non-dedicated) trucks prior to them being loaded with product
    • Coordinates customer sample requests
    • Calibrates testing equipment
  • Other duties as assigned.

High School Diploma or equivalent required
some college and/or degree a plus. Must have excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and computer skills, and pay extreme attention to detail. Must have ability to work independently and with others, developing an effective working relationship with all individuals internal & external to MTI. Must be able to complete all testing, inspections, documentation, and data entry in a thorough, accurate and timely manner. Successful candidate must have the ability to be continuously standing, walking and bending throughout the work shift. Ability to occasionally climb (onto trucks for inspection) is strongly preferred.

While performing the duties of this job, an employee is typically required to have the ability to speak and read English, select and use appropriate equipment/tools to accomplish job duties, follow all instructions and other oral/written information, visually inspect equipment/work area, identify, analyze, troubleshoot and solve issues using judgement, react quickly as needed, be organized and detail oriented, be able to identify/judge the urgency of a situation, use judgement in decision making, communicate effectively with others, be aware of oneself in relation to surrounding equipment. Ability to instruct/transfer job information/knowledge to others is preferred.

Being under general supervision, the employee is expected to be self-directed and take initiative when appropriate to accomplish necessary duties and keep busy without prompting from the supervisor. Additionally, the employee is expected to be adaptable/flexible to changing work assignments, perform multiple tasks at once, have a high level of integrity, dependability and self control to maintain composure, learn and memorize procedures, prioritize work and be persistent as needed, manage time effectively and efficiently, meet established deadlines, display a cooperative attitude, read, understand and follow all company, job specific and safety policies/procedures, and attend/use all required training.

There will be exposure to plant production areas, which may include exposure to outside weather conditions as well as loud noise from equipment and dust from production processes. Exposure to plant areas requires the use of appropriate safety equipment. Personal protective equipment is available for employee use in these circumstances.

Safety Training:
A new employee hired to perform the duties of this position is to be provided New Employee Training from a qualified individual, which consists of classroom training and may include a tour of plant area(s). Additional refresher safety training will be required as management deems appropriate and/or as dictated by MSHA/OSHA regulations.
