Job Description
Were looking for an energetic and collaborative professional to join the Public Relations Team at NREL. This position will provide administrative and logistical support to our Public Relations Team by tracking and managing our corporate memberships and sponsorships as well as project managing our local, community engagement efforts. Were looking for someone who is highly organized as well as being a strong writer and communicator. This position will also engage in newsletter and internal news writing.
As a PR coordinator were looking for someone with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Knowledge of event planning and project management is required, as is strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain good working relationships with NREL staff, the general public, and team members.
Duties will include:
  • Logistics, support, and planning as part of the labs sponsorship and membership activities
  • Project managing our local, community engagement efforts
  • Complete a variety of moderately complex communications deliverables within the assigned team, navigating day-to-day tasks and projects with supervision from colleagues and manager.
  • Building and maintaining positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Awards applications – tracking and assisting with nomination writing
  • Logistics, support, and planning for other public facing events
  • Communications activities measurement and reporting
  • Writing and storytelling
  • Working with writers, editors, designers, and web content specialists and coders to publish materials.
  • Follow internal review processes to ensure work meets established standards, guidelines, and best practices.
  • Ensure deliverables are completed on time.
About the Communications Office
NREL is the only U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) national laboratory dedicated solely to renewable energy and energy efficiency research. The NREL Communications Office comprises communications experts in a variety of disciplines focused on amplifying the research conducted throughout the lab and raising awareness about DOE programs. This position resides in the Public and Media Relations Sect, which is part of a larger Corporate Communications Group representing NRELs engagement with external audiences.

Basic Qualifications

Relevant Bachelor’s Degree and 2 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience. Or, relevant Master’s Degree or equivalent relevant education/experience. General knowledge and application of technical standards, principles, theories and techniques. Frequent application of industry concepts and principles. General knowledge of laws, regulations, principles, procedures and practices related to specific field. Skilled in problem solving, written and verbal communication. Ability to use various computer software programs.

  • Must meet educational requirements prior to employment start date.
Additional Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, or a related field.
  • External communications, public relations, or community relations experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail and quality.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities, with the ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks and projects and meet fast-paced deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with newsletter, social media, webinar platforms, and project management tools.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated creativity, critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience adhering to brand and style guidelines.
  • Ability to distill technical information into understandable and engaging content.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to react positively to rapidly changing circumstances.

Annual Salary Range (based on full-time 40 hours per week)

Job Profile: Professional II / Annual Salary Range: $63,600 – $104,900

NREL takes into consideration a candidates education, training, and experience, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel (if any), external market and internal value, including seniority and merit systems, and internal pay alignment when determining the salary level for potential new employees. In compliance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, a potential new employees salary history will not be used in compensation decisions.
