Description Our Transmission & Distribution Global Practice is looking for a Project Manager to support our Columbus office. The Project Manager oversees all aspects of the projects they manage. This includes project safety, coordinating the design efforts of multi-discipline design teams, managing scopes of work, schedules, and budgets, developing cost and technical proposals, contract negotiation, risk identification, profit and loss, and management, client development, managing client expectations and overall client satisfaction.

As a Project Manager At Burns & McDonnell, You Will Be a Key Part Of Our Nationwide Team. Burns & McDonnell Will Provide You On-the-job Training, Mentorship, And Personal Development As You Support The Following Projects

  • Grid Modernization: Now, more than ever, reliable and secure communication for grid operations is essential. We work with electric utilities to expand their capabilities with the latest technologies for remote equipment monitoring and control, in addition to automation and SCADA solutions, to improve their operational efficiency.
  • Networks: We help our clients build redundant, long-haul, high-capacity private data networks via a variety of technologies that are used for both business/IT needs as well as the day-to-day operational needs that keep the lights on.
  • Renewable Energy: With the expansion of renewable energy technologies, our team works to connect these assets to electric grid infrastructure to provide critical communications for the local utility and system operator in areas such as offshore wind, solar photovoltaic (PV), hydroelectric power, and battery storage.
  • Rural Broadband: As engineers, we have a social responsibility to support our communities. Our NIA team works to help our clients provide high-speed internet access to rural communities to advance educational and economic opportunities and help close the digital divide.
  • Private LTE: We are supporting the development of entirely private carrier-grade wireless networks for electric utilities, unlocking new capabilities to monitor and manage the grid and better serve customers. Private LTE is one application of many within our wireless portfolio.
  • Fiber: Fiber optic infrastructure is one of the fastest ways that utilities transmit high-bandwidth data, and our team is helping to expand that infrastructure from their core networks all the way to customer homes.
  • Electric Vehicles: We work with industry leaders and electric utilities to help our customers transition to beneficial and cost-effective transportation electrification.

Job Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee all aspects of multi-discipline engineering projects from concept to completion including overall safety, siting, environmental, permitting, planning, estimating, engineering, right-of-way acquisition, project controls, bid phase services, procurement, constructability reviews, material management, and closeout.
  • Develop and monitor project schedules, manage scope, and control project costs.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact with clients regarding efforts such as client coordination, strategic planning, master scope management, budget finances, subcontracting, project staffing, environmental compliance, facility support and schedule attainment.
  • Participate in and potentially lead internal and external project risk reviews. Consult with the Legal Department as required.
  • Manage internal project financials, providing detailed, accurate project cost forecasts and accruals to client(s) and Global Practice leadership.
  • Establish project teams, coordinate activities of multiple disciplines, and ensure the efficient, cost-effective utilization of staff.
  • Manage all aspects of project communication.
  • Identify opportunities and manage team efforts for submittals, proposals, presentations, contract negotiation, and related activities.
  • Leverage existing client relationships, create new client relationships, and focus on repeat work within each client account.
  • Provide mentorship as well as formal and informal training for the project team.
  • Provide performance feedback for project team members as appropriate.
  • Develop and implement project policies and procedures, establish project controls systems, and implement the project execution plan.
  • Work closely with the project team to ensure deliverables and services are being provided to the client’s satisfaction and that projects are following internal QA/QC guidelines.
  • Report regularly on progress, cost and schedule metrics, procurement issues, safety or environmental concerns, design questions, potential impacts, and any issues requiring additional support.
  • Travel to client and project locations will be expected.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Candidates for this position must have a Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management or related field from an ABET accredited curriculum.
  • Minimum of seven years of critical infrastructure communications project experience with at least 3 years related project management experience.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) preferred.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred.
  • Must have ability to deal effectively with a wide variety of industry, government, and public contracts on project-related matters.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. This position requires an individual capable of applying intensive and diversified knowledge of principles and practices to broad areas of assignments.
  • Must have experience with the production of applicable engineering design and construction documents.
  • Must be capable of devising innovative approaches to problems encountered.
  • Demonstrated success in project management which includes proposal development, contract negotiations, project planning, design team coordination & communication, budgeting, schedule management, and client coordination.
  • Proven ability to develop business and establish relationships with clients.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills. Must be able to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.
  • Previous consulting experience preferred.
  • Ability to travel.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • In addition, must meet standards to qualify for and maintain the Company’s vehicle driving privileges as outlined in the Company’s Motor Vehicle Safety Policy.
