Job Description

Overview

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Michigan State University is seeking a Project Manager to lead and advance initiatives within the U.S. Department of Energy-funded MSU Industrial Assessment Center (IAC), the Field Management Team of the IAC Expansion Centers, and related projects. The Project Manager will provide strategic support to these programs, focusing on enhancing energy efficiency, decarbonizing industrial and commercial buildings, and supporting energy and manufacturing workforce development. Travel within and outside Michigan (10-20%) is required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Planning and Coordination: Develop project plans and new initiatives in alignment with strategic goals, coordinating with leadership and partners to ensure success.
  • Project Management: Oversee projects by coordinating resources, setting deadlines, assigning responsibilities, and monitoring progress to ensure timely and successful completion.
  • Process Improvement: Analyze systems and processes to identify and implement improvements that enhance operational effectiveness and meet project objectives.
  • Operational Objectives: Contribute to strategic planning by providing insights, recommendations, and action plans to achieve operational goals.
  • Team Collaboration: Engage in regular meetings with project team members, including faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders, to coordinate efforts and ensure alignment.
  • Reporting: Prepare and present reports on project outcomes, including performance summaries and metrics, to document successes and areas for improvement.
  • Team Coordination: Assign tasks and coordinate work among team members to achieve project goals.
  • Change Management: Facilitate change management processes, ensuring that all stakeholders are informed and understand project developments and operational procedures.
  • Conflict Resolution: Address and resolve conflicts between project resources and other functional areas as they arise.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Travel Coordination: Coordinate and participate in project-related travel, both within and outside Michigan (approximately 10-20%), to attend meetings and collaborate with stakeholders.
  • Point of Contact: Serve as a primary contact and advisor for new Industrial Assessment Centers (Expansion IAC), providing onboarding support and regular touchpoints.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Facilitate collaboration among internal and external stakeholders through discussions, webinars, mentoring, and networking activities.
  • Program Promotion: Support the dissemination of program successes by developing content for case studies, social media, web content, and other relevant formats.

Required Education/Experience (non-editable):

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Business Administration, Management or field related to the employing unit; three to five years of related and progressively more expansive work experience in project management, business analysis, facilitating/training with a focus on business management; workflow process analysis and implementation of strategic initiatives or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Unit Specified Education/Experience/Skills:

The job requires: Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Business Administration, Management or field related to Engineering, Environmental Science, Energy, Sustainability, Management, or a related discipline; three to five years of related and progressively more expansive work experience in project management, business analysis, facilitating/training with a focus on business management including team leadership, and achieving targets and deliverables on time and within budget; workflow process analysis and implementation of strategic initiatives or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A valid drivers license is required.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Masters degree.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to set priorities and manage multiple simultaneous projects and deadlines.
  • Preferred experience and/or interest in energy, sustainability, decarbonization, workforce development, and education.
  • Additional preferred qualifications include:

o Relevant technical certifications (e.g., CEM, CEA, LEED, PMP).

o Experience in teaching, tutoring, or training (K-12, community college, university).

o Experience working with underserved or disadvantaged populations.

o Proficiency in data analysis, including Excel and basic statistical methods.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $65,000.00 – $85,000.00 per year
