Position Overview:

SunVest’s Project Execution team is responsible for the successful delivery of solar projects, encompassing all phases from initial development through to commissioning, ensuring that projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

As a Project Engineer based in our Chicago HQ, you will provide project support from mid-stage development through construction and O&M handover for ground mount and rooftop solar projects in various markets across the US. Project Engineers are responsible for supporting Project Managers with project reporting, completing permitting activities, supporting remote monitoring system setup, and other administrative and or documentation needs that come up. You will help manage the backend of bringing quality renewable energy generation systems on-line. Your expertise in engineering and project management will be pivotal to SunVest’s ongoing success, contributing to our sustainable growth strategy and the development of strategic plans for managing and improving renewable energy generation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and Documentation: Manage the development of preliminary drawing sets and initial solar site configurations ensuring they meet project specifications and industry standards. Assist in managing the permitting process of renewable energy projects in a variety of jurisdictions. Collaborate with the development group for initial designs and concepts, progressing to detailed designs ensuring regulatory, performance, longevity, and cost requirements are met.
  • Vendor and Resource Management: Assist in issuing, evaluating, and managing Requests for Proposals (RFPs) from third-party Engineering of Record (EOR) and design resources. Supervise and review outputs from both in-house and third-party design resources ensuring readiness for EOR, utility approval, and site construction. Assist in tracking and ordering materials for projects. Assist in developing and managing contracts for labor and materials.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with development, pre-construction, and project managers to ensure technical requirements are met and projects stay on schedule. Support project managers in resolving technical RFIs and issues that arise during construction, offering solutions to facilitate smooth project execution. Assist in developing project budgets and schedules.
  • Improvement and Learning: Maintain and broaden understanding of applicable codes, standards, and emerging solar technologies. Evaluate field feedback on engineering issues, drive investigations to root cause, and contribute to preventative measures and process improvements.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a closely related field from an ABET accredited program or equivalent work experience; Master’s degree or relevant certifications a plus.
  • Experience in construction, renewable energy, or a related industry a plus.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Procore, MS Project, Primavera P6, or other scheduling software a plus.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities with a proactive approach to identifying and implementing process improvements.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with various teams and stakeholders, demonstrating strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • A deep passion for the renewable energy sector and a principled approach to fostering sustainable solutions.
