Job Description

Job Summary:

We are seeking a talented Project Engineer to join our innovative solar photovoltaic and energy storage engineering team. If you’re passionate about renewable energy and eager to make a difference, this is the perfect role for you.

As a Project Engineer, you will play a critical role in the entire project lifecycle. You’ll be responsible for leading project designs, developing technical specifications, obtaining utility approvals, ensuring quality control, and managing engineering budgets.

In this position, you’ll collaborate closely with various departments, including Business Development, Construction, Procurement, Asset Management, and Operations & Maintenance. You’ll also interact with external engineering firms and customers, giving you a well-rounded experience in the renewable energy sector. As part of the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) department, you’ll report directly to the Director of Engineering, providing opportunities for mentorship and professional growth.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Oversee and manage project portfolios, focusing on detailed system design, equipment selection, specifications, interconnection approvals, and performance testing of constructed projects.
  • Perform quality control on electrical, structural, civil engineering, and racking drawings to ensure designs are optimized and code compliant.
  • Model energy production, generate details, layouts, and single-line diagrams, and apply relevant codes and standards. Ensure timely delivery of all designs with the appropriate level of quality, balancing quality with cost competitiveness.
  • Engage customers, independent engineers, and third-party engineers of record.
  • Create purchase orders and execute site-specific contracts for engineering services.
  • Assess and flag risks to the projects in the design phase, including but not limited to budget and schedule concerns, and lead the resolution process.
  • Analyze utility interconnection and facilities studies.
  • Participate in the creation and maintenance of engineering standards and specifications.
  • Research new technologies and products, industry trends, standards and codes, utility requirements, vendor qualifications, and industry best practices.
  • Provide technical guidance during system installations, respond to requests for information, and assist construction managers with asset commissioning and performance testing.
  • Travel as needed to perform site surveys or installation audits (approximately 10% or less).

Qualifications:

  • Relevant experience in commercial or utility-scale solar PV systems design.
  • Experience with ground mounts, rooftops, carports, and BESS systems is desired. Power distribution, power generation, and electrical engineering experience are required. Medium voltage and BESS experience is a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
  • Strong familiarity with the National Electric Code and other relevant design codes.
  • Proficiency in design tools such as AutoCAD and PVsyst.
  • Ability to crosscheck electrical calculations of third-party engineers.
  • Knowledge of specifying electrical equipment.
  • Conceptual understanding of civil site design and structural design of racking and foundations.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement detailed solutions to complex technical problems.
