DESCRIPTION

At the UC San Diego School of Global Policy and Strategy (GPS), the search for solutions to some of the most pressing global policy challenges of our time starts right here – from climate change to food security, democracy, migration, human rights, security and much more. GPS instructs a diverse student body of domestic and international students in the MPP, MCEPA, MIA, and MAS-IA degree programs, a joint Ph.D. with the Department of Political Science and executive education programs. GPS also administers the International Studies Program, offering a rigorous curriculum for students interested in international affairs with nine B.A. degree options, three combined BA/MIA and BA/MPP programs, and a minor program. GPS is also the parent organization to major research centers: 21st Century China Center, 21st Century India Center, Big Pixel Initiative, Center for Commerce and Diplomacy, Cowhey Center on Global Transformation, Center for U.S.-Mexican Studies, Fudan-UC Center on Contemporary China, Japan Forum for Innovation and Technology, Korea-Pacific Program, Policy Design and Evaluation Lab, SDG Policy Initiative, Wavemaker Lab, and the campus-wide Deep Decarbonization Initiative and the UC Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation.

Under the direction of the IGCC Associate Director and Strategic Programs Manager, this position will coordinate programs, manage the IGCC office at the UC Washington Center, participate in strategic engagement, and provide fiscal support for IGCC programs including the Public Policy and Nuclear Threats (PPNT) Boot Camp, the Postdoctoral Program on Technology and International Security, and other programs as assigned.

The position involves project analysis and makes contributions to the immediate academic and programmatic goals of IGCC programs; under supervision, the Program and Research Associate liaises with funding agencies, collaborators, and program constituents; executes large-scale, multi-disciplinary education/training, conferencing, and outreach efforts; works with principals, research staff, and visiting scholars on project needs; and provides assistance with special projects.

  • Must be willing and able to travel domestically and internationally. Overtime and weekends may be required.

This position is based at the UC Washington Center (UCDC) in Washington, D.C. and is the main point of contact at the UCDC IGCC office.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with negotiating and decision-making skills particularly when working with external vendors.

  • Demonstrated experience analyzing and identifying problems, independently resolving discrepancies with ability to recommend solutions, contributing effectively to support organizational objectives. Analytical / problem-solving skills.

  • Degree in International Relations, Political Science, Business Administration, Communications, or closely related field plus some post-degree experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Working knowledge of common organization- or research-specific and other computer application programs. This includes Microsoft suite, Google suite, Zoom, and other commonly used virtual meeting platforms.

  • Demonstrates ability to analyze, research and synthesize large amounts of data with strong attention to detail.

  • Proficient in communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Ability to display tact, diplomacy, flexibility and political acumen in dealing with sensitive situations.

  • Ability to write and communicate business content effectively in a variety of mediums (web, summaries, reports, brochures, presentations, etc.) and in ways appropriate to targeted audiences (executives, business partners, end-users, general public, formal agencies, etc).

  • Proficient in ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality. Especially as it pertains to personal information on application submissions.

  • Ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes.

  • Demonstrates ability to use sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns.

  • Proficient in ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes.

  • Working knowledge of applicable policy analysis techniques.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $58,600 – $100,800 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $28.07 – $48.28

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
