What We Are Looking For
As a Principal Wholesale Energy Markets at Stem, you will play a pivotal role in advancing our sales, product marketing, and business development initiatives. Your deep understanding of some of the major deregulated wholesale markets (e.g., ERCOT, CAISO, PJM, and others) will be key in identifying market opportunities, tracking market trends, and monitoring regulatory developments to support customer engagements. You will provide subject-matter guidance on markets to both external and internal customers.
In this dynamic role, you will collaborate with a diverse group of internal subject matter and functional experts, including teams from Sales, Business Development, Product Management, Policy, Finance, Legal, Engineering, and Operations. Your ability to navigate these departments will be crucial to your success.

Responsibilities
Markets
- Serve as the go-to subject matter expert for a portfolio of wholesale markets and programs, keeping up to date on market/program evolution, including submarkets/subprograms, rules, value streams, prices, and other key features
- Support the Product Marketing team’s open market analysis to provide a comprehensive market projection and opportunity view for Stem’s business
- Develop and implement strategies to leverage wholesale market trends and regulatory changes
- Track policy and regulatory developments affecting markets and programs in which Stem is active, in collaboration with the Policy & Regulatory team
- Conduct analysis of market risks, including developments in industry, regulation, and technology, that impact energy storage, generation, and ancillary services
- Keep up to date on energy storage, renewable energy, and electricity market developments and use this information to inform all of the above
- Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders and actors within a portfolio of markets
Sales Support
- Support sales efforts by attending customer calls and serving as an expert on wholesale energy markets
- Lead customer engagements, displaying your comprehensive understanding of wholesale market dynamics and Stem’s value proposition.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for external and internal inquiries related to wholesale markets
- Train the Sales team on key market developments and trends so that they can effectively communicate them to customers and partners
Business Development
- Provide expert insights and guidance to internal teams to support new market entry strategies
- Support the Business Development team’s emerging market analysis to provide a comprehensive market projection and opportunity view for Stem’s business
- Collaborate on the creation of marketing materials, white papers, and policy briefs to bolster business development efforts
- Stay updated on industry developments, technological advancements, and the competitive landscape to keep Stem at the forefront of the energy market
- Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders and actors within target markets
Requirements
- Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in business, engineering, economics, math, or similar subject (or equivalent practical experience)
- 7+ years of experience in marketing, product management, business development, market entry, consulting, and/or analytics
- 4+ years of hands-on experience in wholesale energy markets (e.g., ERCOT, CAISO, PJM, ISO-NE, etc.), including in-depth knowledge of at least two major wholesale electricity markets (ERCOT, CASIO, or PJM preferred)
- Existing relationships with key players in wholesale energy markets, with a preference for ERCOT, CAISO, and/or PJM
- Exposure to battery cell technologies, power conversion systems (PCS), system integration, energy management systems (EMS), long-term service agreements (LTSA), storage optimization, and/or energy asset management a plus
- Ability to work autonomously with excellent time management skills, focusing on key outcomes amidst competing priorities and tight deadlines
- Ability to think across disciplines and functional expertise
- Ability to embrace ambiguity in a fast-paced environment
- Travel expectation 25-30%

Salary Range
$130,500.00 – $182,850.00
