Idaho Laboratory is hiring a Power System Engineer Researcher to work in our Infrastructure Security department. Our team works a 9×80 fully remote and periodically from the REC facility with every other Friday off. You will report to the department manager over Infrastructure Security. As a Senior Power Engineer/Researcher within INL’s & Homeland Security (N&HS) Directorate, you will lead and direct research in state-of-the-art cyber for power systems and clean energy integration within the critical infrastructure protections and resilience mission. Responsibilities Include:
- You will provide technical direction to analytic efforts, research endeavors, technology solutions and business development support for the power research community, including US public utilities, Department of Defense (DoD), Department of Energy (DOE), the Intelligence Community and other government agencies.
- Develop and implement research plans and business strategies that result in significant impact to the N&HS mission space; assist the successful implementation (cost, schedule, safety, security, environmental compliance, and quality assurance) of associated projects and programs; develop and maintain active relationships with main clients and strategic partnerships with main external partners; provide and INL technical consultation in areas of expertise, and work as an effective team player with other researchers, line managers, relationship managers, and professional technical/administrative staff from across the INL.
- Depth of technical knowledge should include several of the following areas: commercial power design and cyber protection, including protection devices, transformers, distributed energy generators, control systems, and communications; inverter-based resources with a focus on test hardening and vulnerability assessments including understanding Smart Grid and Digital Technologies, Renewable Integration, and Grid Modernization.
Qualifications:Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree and 8 years of relevant experience or Master’s and 6 years or PhD and 4 years
- This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy “Q” clearance, which requires US Citizenship.
Job Information
- Salary Grade: 460 – ($109,260 – $223,908). At Idaho Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
- You are required to show a demonstrated commitment to valuing and contributing to an inclusive working environment.
- TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.
