The expected annual salary range for this role is $120750.03 – $177100.04 a year.

EESS is currently seeking a Power System Advisory Engineer on utility studies. The primary purpose of this position is to provide subject matter expertise and technical support to execute, lead, oversee, and managing engineering studies for electric distribution and transmission systems. You will be a part of an innovative team shaping the grid of the future by offering engineering consulting services related to grid modernization and DER integration to a growing list of utility clients.

In This Position You Will

  • As a Subject Matter Expert, applies own expertise in executing, leading, overseeing, and managing engineering studies for electric distribution systems including power flow studies, short circuit, transient stability, dynamic Studies, reliability studies, risk assessment techniques, and protection co-ordination studies; DER and energy storage interconnection and integration; load forecasting and hosting capability studies, distribution automation studies, volt-var optimization, and provide input into strategic planning.
  • Use relevant utility experience to engage with client utilities to understand their specific applications, approaches and methodologies in Distribution Planning and DER integration.
  • Provide technical advisory services especially for distribution engineering practices, processes, and technologies, and DER.
  • Drive the adoption of innovative technologies and tools to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of power system studies and distribution planning processes.
  • Maintains strict compliance with Eaton safety policies and deployment of safety programs,
  • Provides strategic input in identification of and securing business with prospective customers,
  • Interfaces with customers, sales, outside vendors, manufacturing plants, product divisions, and functional support staff in procuring respective services and consulting,
  • Builds a long-lasting relationship with the customers, sales, R&D, operations, product engineering team, and other departments.
  • Contribute to business development efforts, including preparation of proposal and marketing materials, to support the overall vision and goals of the Energy Transition team.
  • Actively participates in development and delivery of training of additional resources in his/her area of expertise,
  • Stay current with emerging trends and advancements in power systems, bringing forward-thinking solutions to the organization.
  • Authors and presents technical papers in relevant professional publications, conferences and forums,
  • Participates in related product development programs, in order to meet the product line strategic and financial goals for the assigned projects,
  • Familiarity with Hardware-in-the-loop simulation,
  • Familiarity with Synergi, Milsoft Windmil, and ASPEN;
  • Familiarity with Geographic Information Systems such as ESRI ArcGIS or Smallworld GIS
  • Familiarity with real-time grid management (e.g. SCADA/EMS/ADMS/DERMS) solutions.
  • PE License
  • Experience of developing tools /scripts using software such as Python etc. to automate the repetitive tasks during projects.
  • Strong knowledge base of electrification, and decarbonization practices in the distribution system
  • Working knowledge of power electronics (inverters, battery chargers, UPS systems) and various applicable switching technologies

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution
  • 8 years of experience in a utility engineering or consulting role
  • No relocation is being offered for this position. Candidate must reside within a 50 mile radius of location listed in job description to be considered. Active duty military candidates are exempt from this requirement
  • Must be authorized to work in United States without company sponsorship now or in the future

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters Degree or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution and 8 years of proven experience in a utility engineering consulting or technical advisory capacity with a proven track record.
  • Experience modeling inverter-based resources and renewable generation, such as Wind Turbine Generators (WTG), photovoltaic (PV), Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), and hybrid generation, and associated collector system for interconnection applications using software such as, CYME, PSS/E, PSLF, PowerWorld, ETAP, EMTP and PSCAD
  • Advanced knowledge of power system planning and operations, for example: Power flow studies, short circuit, transient stability, dynamic studies, reliability studies, risk assessment techniques, and protection co-ordination studies, generator interconnection, load forecasting and hosting capability studies.
  • Strong background in electrical grid’s distribution systems with experience in modeling and analysis of distribution systems.
  • Experience of developing Distribution Automation and Smart Grid roadmap and strategy is a plus.
  • Familiarity with ETAP, Matlab/Simulink, EasyPower, SKM, or other software tools. Advanced knowledge of power systems analysis software tools such as CYME, PSCAD, PSS/E, PSLF or similar.
  • Understanding of existing applicable standards, including but not limited to IEEE Std 1547, California Rule 21
  • Experience on NERC Compliance Studies and Utility consulting experience in the area of distribution and transmission planning,
  • Experience with distributed energy resources planning, advanced distribution management systems (ADMS), and/or distributed energy resources management systems (DERMS) platforms
  • Active leadership in a technical or industry committees, and proven track record in participation of standard working groups, associations, publishing of technical paper
