OVERVIEW
Under the general supervision of the Shift Supervisor, this position is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the facility in accordance with all federal and state requirements and company policies and standards.
DETAILED ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Locally start, stop, regulate, monitor and control boilers, turbine generators, and all auxiliary equipment, normally through the local control stations.
- Operates and regenerates the water treatment plant equipment including filters, RO units, makeup de-mineralizers and return condensate polishers.
- Observes, records, and interprets indications from local instrumentation and control systems. Calculates, evaluates, and reports findings.
- Assists in the investigation of plant problems, incidents, accidents, unusual events, and provides analysis, recommendations, reports, and appropriate follow up plans.
- Determines the need for and performs routine operational tests and adjustments on all power plant systems and components as required.
- When properly trained or supervised, performs tests, in or out of the chemical laboratory, on steam, water, and other samples.
- Checks daily consumption rates of chemicals, fuels, and water; monitor inventories and initiates action to replenish same.
- Performs equipment switching and hold order tagging.
- Perform routine preventive and predictive maintenance on systems and equipment; support corrective maintenance efforts on selected equipment when properly trained or supervised.
- Maintains logs, records, and data sheets; prepares reports, trends, time sheets, material requisitions, work orders, and other administrative documents related to the business of power and steam production.
- Must be able to abide by all safety regulations and guidelines as they pertain to New Hope Power Company.
- Must be able to report for work as scheduled promptly and fit for duty.
- Must make every reasonable effort to avoid unscheduled absenteeism.
- Must be able to observe all posted notices including safety instructions, non-smoking areas, and other notices.

ESSENTIAL CAPABILITIES (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES)
- Possess knowledge of the equipment and systems installed and operated in a co-generation power plant such as, motors, pumps, boilers, turbines, generators, fluid systems, chemical handling, water treatment systems, cooling towers, pollution control equipment, AC and DC electrical distribution and control systems, etc.
- Basic knowledge/ability to understand fundamental principles related to Physics, Mathematics, AC and DC electrical theory, heat transfer and fluid flow, thermodynamics, chemistry, and metallurgy.
- Ability to understand and read mechanical and electrical drawings such as P&IDs, Single Line diagrams, schematics, and logic diagrams.
- Knowledge of cogeneration plant safety procedure, especially in areas such as chemical handling, high energy systems, confined spaces, fire suppression, first aid, rotating machinery, heavy equipment, etc.
- Possess the ability to read, write and comprehend technical information.
- Possess good computer skills with proficiency in Micro Soft Office (word, excel, power point).
- Demonstrated capability to perform specialized maintenance and/or operational tasks on typical power plant equipment using basic hand tools, portable electric and pneumatic tools, basic rigging equipment such as winches, hoists, and slings; and implements such as lances, shovels, pry bars, etc.
- Able to operate valves, switches, controls, keyboards, and other devices associated with co-generation plant equipment.
- Possess professional communication skills, both verbal and written, in order to properly communicate with plant employees and outside vendor representatives.
- Must be able to work required schedule as determined by plant operations including shift work and on-call status to respond to emergency situations as needed.
- Must be able to work from high locations and during inclement weather conditions as necessary.
- Must be able to observe hazards and avoid accidents by following proper corrective measures.
- Must be able to work rotating shifts and extra/irregular hours, and to work under unusual and special conditions that can arise in a biomass co-generation plant.
- Must be able to pass respirator fit tests and to use respiratory protective equipment or self-contained breathing apparatus when required.
- Must be able to perform all duties associated with power plant operations which include bending, lifting, reaching, working on elevated platforms and ladders, working in confined spaces, or working at significant heights.
- Must be able to perform all duties in a power plant environment which includes heat, stairs, ramps, uneven walking surfaces, noise, vibration and dust.
- Ability to fill in for and perform the duties of Plant Operator with minimal direction or supervision
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- Possess a High school or vocational school diploma, or equivalent and technical training that demonstrates ability to perform successfully in similar work environments.
