Scope of Job PowerFlex, an EDF Renewables company, is a leading national provider of intelligent onsite energy solutions that support carbon-free electrification and transportation. The Performance Engineer – Power Intern will be exposed to a range of renewable energy commissioning activities, including system performance evaluation, operations and maintenance, system troubleshooting, and project engineering if desired. The position will be responsible for helping assist the Execution team with performing system evaluations, troubleshooting system performance, and documenting results.

Location

This role is open to be 100% remote in the state of New York or a hybrid role out our New York, NY, office.

Working Schedule

We are looking for a part-time intern. This role will work approximately 18 hours a week ideally aiming for a Mon-Fri schedule working 3-4 hours per day in the afternoons to overlap with West Coast working hours. However, we are flexible to adjust the schedule as needed.

NYSERDA Internship Requirements

This internship is through the New York State’s Clean Energy Program. To be eligible for the program, you must qualify as at least one of the following:

  • An individual currently attending or who attended a degree program at a college or university, located in New York State within the within the last 12 months as of the date of the intern application
  • A current New York State resident attending or who attended a college or university outside of New York State within the last 12 months as of the date of the intern application. New York State residency, with proof of residency such as rental agreement or utility bills, must have been established prior to the start of the internship
  • New York State residents who are members of adisadvantaged communityand/orPriority Population

Responsibilities

  • Help evaluate and test commercial scale solar, storage and EV charging projects after they are energized
  • Assist with documentation of current processes and procedures for commissioning activities
  • Perform production analysis for PV systems & BESS systems
  • Coordinate with project managers, engineers and subcontractors for troubleshooting efforts 
  • Communicate with equipment vendors to resolve issues
  • Manage user access to various data acquisition and inverter monitoring portals
  • Configure online monitoring portals based on project information
  • Track and analyze project data (including failure rates, portfolio performance, etc)
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the Commissioning Manager – Power

Qualifications

Education/Experience

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Engineering or Science

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Available to work for at least 20 hours/week (Office hours are generally from 9am-5pm, and flexible hours are allowed) 
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and Excel, energy simulation experience is a plus
  • Basic understanding of photovoltaic systems and electrical components

Compensation

The pay range for this position is $20 – $25 hourly. This position is eligible for PowerFlex’s comprehensive Health and Welfare plans including but not limited to medical, dental, vision, 401(k) retirement plan and paid time off. The total compensation for this position may include an annual performance bonus (or other incentive compensation, as applicable). PowerFlex’s compensation packages carefully consider a candidate’s qualifications, experiences, and education in relation to the position.

Physical Requirements

Remaining in a seated position. Long hours on computer keyboard. Prolonged periods of standing and/or walking.

Working Conditions

Approximately 90% of the time is spent in the office environment, utilizing computers (frequent use of MS Word, MS Excel, Outlook, Access, PowerPoint, Publisher and Adobe etc.), telephones, and general office equipment. Possibly 10% of the time is spent traveling to conferences or meetings or field traveling to project sites.
