Job Overview

We are seeking a dynamic and driven Outside Sales Engineer (Renewables / Solar, Wind, BESS) to join our team, preferably based in the West, including California (CA). The ideal candidate will possess an entrepreneurial spirit, a knack for building customer relationships, and a passion for providing top-notch solutions in the renewables and transformer industries.

Key Responsibilities

Business Development:

  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities within the renewables sector, targeting companies with a need for advanced transformer solutions.
  • Develop and execute sales strategies to meet revenue targets reflecting an entrepreneurial spirit and an understanding of market dynamics.
  • Willingness to travel extensively, approximately 3 weeks per month, to meet with customers and attend industry events.

Customer Engagement:

  • Build strong rapport with customers by being personable and delivering clear, concise, and relevant messages tailored to their needs.
  • Act independently in decision-making processes, demonstrating the ability to take calculated risks and initiative without waiting for directives.

Consultative Selling:

  • Engage in meaningful conversations with customers to understand their needs, asking insightful questions and actively listening to uncover underlying challenges and opportunities.
  • Collaborate with customers to develop tailored solutions that address their specific requirements, ensuring satisfaction and fostering long-term partnerships.

Technical Expertise:

  • Utilize your knowledge of transformers and the renewables industry to educate customers on the benefits and features of our products.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to customers throughout the sales process, ensuring they have a clear understanding of the product capabilities and applications.

Market Analysis:

  • Conduct thorough market research to identify trends, opportunities, and competitive landscapes within the renewables and transformer sectors.
  • Provide feedback to the product development team to enhance product offerings and meet emerging customer demands.

Sales Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of sales activities, customer interactions, and market insights in the CRM system.
  • Prepare regular sales reports and forecasts for management review.

Qualifications

Experience:

  • Preferred: Outside sales experience in Commercial Renewables, Solar, Wind, or BESS selling transformers above 30 MVA.
  • Acceptable: Candidates with extensive sales experience in high power industries will be considered, especially if they demonstrate a strong sales track record and adaptability.
  • Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in sales or business development, preferably in the renewables sector.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field preferred. Equivalent experience will be considered.
  • Candidates with an Electrical Engineering (EE) degree are highly desirable, even if they lack specific transformer/renewable experience as long as they possess technical sales. Relevant transformer industry experience can substitute for an EE degree.

Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal skills with a knack for building and maintaining customer relationships.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to deliver clear and compelling messages.
  • Self-starter with a proactive approach to problem-solving and decision-making.
