We have a vacancy for an Origination Manager to join our US team based in Austin, Texas, reporting to our US Managing Director and Global Strategy Director. You would be responsible for all activities related to business development and origination including sourcing leads, explaining the Habitat value proposition, agreeing commercial terms and contracting both for our core optimization services but potentially also for adjacent products in risk management and structured products. Habitat prides itself in offering best in class optimization capability to owners of battery storage and renewables so youll need an in-depth knowledge of ERCOT power markets and related technical topics, as well as great interpersonal and communication skills.

Remuneration is competitive and commensurate with experience. For highly experienced candidates (with 10+ years experience) we may offer the title of VP Origination.


You will be responsible for:

  • Generating awareness and building the Habitat Energy brand through networking, developing sales and marketing materials, cultivating outbound and managing inbound opportunities
  • Understanding prospective clients’ needs and developing solutions that add value and match their problems and requirements
  • Demonstrating the Habitat value proposition, running demonstrations, explaining the benefits and market differentiation to prospective clients
  • Supporting all stages of the client acquisition process, including delivering pitches, responding to RFPs, developing proposals, modeling scenarios, supporting contract negotiations, and managing deals to close
  • Managing and supporting client relationships from onboarding through go-live and beyond, including developing retention strategies
  • Supporting advisory services by qualifying opportunities, developing proposals, and managing delivery and follow-up
  • For the right candidate, engaging with balance sheet providers and tolling offtakers to develop risk management and structured products for our clients

Must have skills and experience:

  • 3+ years energy market experience in any of the fields of business development, origination, energy trading, commodity markets, transaction support, consulting, asset management, QSEs or energy market modeling
  • Good with numbers, comfortable getting into detail on highly technical quantitative topics
  • Excellent people skills, including the ability to establish and maintain strong relationships with clients and internal team
  • Appreciation of the finer points of verbal and written communications, strong attention to detail
  • Self motivated with the ability to take initiative, juggle multiple client priorities and solve difficult problems with a positive can do attitude
  • Comfort working in a non-hierarchical team environment working towards a shared goal
  • A degree in business, economics, finance, computer science, engineering or related technical field

Nice to have skills and experience

  • Network of relationships within the US power markets preferably IPPs, developers and/or energy focused investment banking/private equity
  • Experience in energy storage optimisation
  • Experience with risk management and structured product origination such as tolls, revenue floors
  • Experience setting up QSEs and onboarding assets
  • Developing and/or running analytical/technical pricing models
  • Performing economic or project financial evaluations
  • Graduate degree in business/STEM fields
