Job Description

The Holland Energy Facility, situated in Beecher City, Illinois, is an impressive 665 MW combined-cycle power plant. This state-of-the-art facility comprises two 7FA gas-fired DLN combustion turbines, each complemented by high-efficiency Heat Recovery Steam Generators (HRSGs), all seamlessly integrated with a single, powerful steam turbine.

Opportunity Summary

The Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Technician is responsible for monitoring the status of all plant systems on a continuous basis. The O&M Technician responds to alarms by taking appropriate corrective actions and executes plant start-up and shut down procedures as required. The O&M Technician ensures that the plant meets its generating requirements while operating in a safe and efficient manner.

Primary Job Duties

  • Promptly report any upset conditions or anomalies in plant status to the Operations Manager or Lead O&M Technician, leveraging a solid understanding of the power plant industry and plant operations.
  • Apply water chemistry control, including the analysis of water conditions, operation of water treatment facilities, and safe chemical handling, to ensure optimal steam temperature and pressure, as well as proper feed water and fuel supply for efficient combustion.
  • Respond to orders and requests from electrical, steam, and fuel dispatchers, employing theoretical and practical understanding of combustion/steam turbine operations, closed system steam generation, industrial safety, hazardous waste management, and the inspection/recording of plant parameters.
  • Operate control panels for regulating the load on the HRSG and turbines, utilizing expertise in reading and interpreting piping and instrument schematics and understanding process controls.
  • Execute emergency operations to uphold electric service and protect station equipment, employing creativity in problem-solving for unique challenges.
  • Provide direction to O&M Technicians for implementing changes in plant conditions and chemistry, utilizing excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Fulfill additional tasks as requested by the Operations Manager, demonstrating the ability to work effectively with others and to be self-directed.
  • Successfully complete the O&M Technician qualification card.

Working Relationships

The O&M Technician reports to the Operations Manager and cooperates with all plant personnel.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Physical requirements include standing for extended periods of time, stair and ladder climbing, and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds. Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g., hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves, and high voltage protective equipment, etc.). Work with hazardous materials may be required. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.

Fitness for Duty

All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening.

Work Schedule

This position will mostly work a Dupont schedule, and will cover shifts as needed. This position may also require extended working hours and varied shifts with the possibility of weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, workload, and plant conditions. “On call” status will periodically be required.

Compensation

The initial compensation will range from $36 to $44 per hour.

Job Qualifications

  • Ability to understand procedures and instructions specific to the area of assignment as would be acquired in four years of high school is required. An Associate Degree in a technical field is desirable.
  • Working knowledge of power plant industry and previous experience in an operating or generating plant is desired.
  • Experience in water chemistry control, analysis of water conditions, water treatment facility operations and chemical handling.
  • Theoretical and practical knowledge of combustion/steam turbine operations, closed system steam generation, industrial safety, hazardous waste management and inspection/recording of plant parameters.
  • Experience with piping and instrument schematics and process controls.
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work well with others and be self-directed, as well as apply creative solutions to unique problems.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license at all times.
