We’re excited to announce an opportunity for an Offshore Renewables Engineer to join our dynamic and expanding engineering team. You’ll be based in Boston, United States and will collaborate closely with our skilled professionals across ABL Group offices worldwide. As an Offshore Renewables Engineer, you’ll play a key role in ensuring the successful delivery and risk management of renewable energy projects. Youll conduct marine warranty surveys, site attendances, documentation reviews, technical assessments, and manage project operations. This role also offers opportunities to collaborate with other ABL business lines and group companies like OWC and Longitude, with potential involvement in marine casualty surveying. In addition, you will also:
- Gain comprehensive knowledge of ABL Renewables’ full range of services and key deliverables.
- Conduct marine warranty surveys to assess vessel suitability, approve towage, ensure marine assurance, and validate on-site operations and installations.
- Thoroughly review transportation and installation procedures for various offshore renewable energy projects, including wind, solar, tidal, and wave energy.
- Perform detailed and safe on-site inspections, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail.
- Provide technical consultancy for marine advisory projects, particularly in renewables transport and installation (T&I) and operations and maintenance (O&M) activities.
- Assist in project management, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to budget constraints.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop innovative and effective solutions for renewable energy projects.
- Coordinate closely with group companies, such as Longitude and OWC, to maximize expertise and resource utilization.
- Prepare comprehensive reports and documentation for clients and stakeholders, ensuring clarity and accuracy.
- Stay informed on industry trends, regulations, and best practices in renewable energy and marine engineering.
- Participate in marine casualty investigations, assessing damage to vessels, cargo, or insured assets, and provide detailed reports and cost estimates.
- Conduct loss prevention surveys for P&I, H&M, and yachts as required.
- Engage in business development activities to promote ABLs renewable energy services to local and international clients.
- Support the Renewables Manager in executing the regional growth strategy by identifying and capitalizing on new opportunities.
- Undertake additional duties as assigned to support the overall success of the team.
The position will be based in Boston, USA and you must have the right to live and work in the United States, with flexibility to working hours with required travel, including offshore. Based in the Northeast US, preferably Massachusetts, Rhode Island, or Connecticut.
Essential:
- Bachelors degree in marine engineering or related field, or equivalent experience.
- 1 to 5 years of experience in Offshore Construction or Maritime industries.
- Strong decision-making, technical, and analytical skills.
- Accurate, timely reporting with a focus on high-quality work.
- Excellent communication and multitasking abilities.
- Eager to develop leadership skills and pursue opportunities.
- Energetic, personable, and ethical with strong organizational skills.
- Self-motivated, eager to learn, and outgoing with a purpose-driven mindset.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work independently or in a team.
- Excellent presentation and communication abilities.
Desirable:
- PE or Chartered Engineer preferred, not required.
- Associate member of SOMWS preferred, not required.
- Familiarity with marine surveying, on-site inspection, and risk management.
- Experience in offshore energy construction and development.
- Seagoing experience on commercial vessels.
- Business development experience.
- Relevant experience in ship repair, salvage, MWS, or offshore construction.
- Prior experience in the renewables industry.
