MN350 & MN350 Action Board Treasurer – Volunteer Position
MN350 is a dynamic, community- led and volunteered-powered grassroots organization building a people’s movement to demand that Minnesota take action and leadership in addressing the climate crisis in an equitable and sustainable way. Our mission is to unite Minnesotans as part of a global movement to end the pollution damaging our climate and particularly harming BIPOC and low-income communities, speed the transition to clean energy, and create a racially just and healthy future for all. MN350 is a 501©(3) organization.
MN350 Action is a 501©(4) advocacy nonprofit that is building a bold, diverse mass movement for climate justice by building public support and equipping supporters to effect change at the local, municipal, and state levels. MN350 Action is a sister organization to MN350 that shares staff, offices, and volunteers. MN350 and MN350 Action work collaboratively with numerous coalition partners to build a movement for climate justice and racial justice.
MN350 is a state affiliate of 350.org, a global organization building a grassroots movement to stop the climate crisis and realize racial and climate justice for all. 350.org’s online campaigns, grassroots organizing, and mass public actions are led from the bottom up by thousands of volunteer organizers in more than 188 countries. The number “350” stands for the upper limit of carbon pollution in the atmosphere that is compatible with a livable climate.
Accountability
The board treasurer is an executive and voting member of the board of directors of MN350 & MN350 Action and is appointed in a manner consistent with the bylaws. He/she is accountable to the Board for the fulfillment of the duties and responsibilities outlined below.
Authority
The treasurer, like other board members, has no authority to direct staff or take independent action on matters outside of the duties outlined unless given such authority by the Board.
Time Commitment
Up to Ten hours per month (board meetings, meetings with the Executive Director, committee meetings)
Term of Office
Two years with the possibility of renewal for a second term.
Roles and Responsibilities
The treasurer will offer guidance to the Executive Director and Senior Accountant in ensuring good fiscal planning, decision-making, and oversight at a governance level.
