Job Description:
Idaho Power located in vibrant Boise, Idaho is looking for a Meter Tester I or II to join our Operations Support team. Its an exciting time to work for Idaho Power. What does a Meter Tester I or II do for us?
Meter testers work in our Meter Test Facility, focused on testing, refurbishing, and retiring electric meters used in residential, commercial/industrial, irrigation, and generation applications. Meter tester responsibilities include: receive and perform accuracy and quality assurance testing on all types of electric revenue meters using an automated, computer-controlled test board; perform necessary repairs and adjustments to return used meters to inventory; plan and execute routine compliance testing and special projects related to the implementation of new technology or control of nonconformances; keep detailed records of meters and meter test results on computerized system; coordinate with meter testing contractors including preparing and shipping meters, tracking progress, reviewing test data and invoices, and other tasks as necessary to ensure meter testing meets contractual requirements.

REQUIRED SKILLS
Knowledge of:
  • Power measurement, kWH, kW
  • 3 phase and single-phase power

  • Electronics and electronics principles
  • Electricity and electrical principles
  • Algebra and trigonometric formulas

  • Electronic/electrical, troubleshooting and repair

  • Computer programs including Microsoft Excel and Word applications, and SQL Server Management Studio
  • Data tracking and analysis using Microsoft Excel

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Meter Tester I
Education:
  • Associates degree in Electronics
OR
  • Equivalent combination of formal technical training and work experience
Preferred:
  • Associates degree in Electronics
Experience:
  • 2 years of experience in electrical industry
Preferred:
  • 3 years of experience in testing, troubleshooting and repair of electronic/electrical devices including operation of test equipment, record keeping, compliance testing and working with quality assurance requirements.
Meter Tester II
Education:
  • Associates degree in Electronics
OR
  • Equivalent combination of formal technical training and work experience
Preferred:
  • Associates degree in electronics
Experience:
  • 5 years of experience in testing, troubleshooting and repair of electronic/electrical devices including operation of test equipment, record keeping, compliance testing and working with quality assurance requirements

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position consists of testing, sorting, cleaning, and taking of inventory of meters before shipping into the field for use. This requires lifting up to 30 lbs., pushing of up to 17.5 lbs., pulling of up to 20 lbs., and reaching to shoulder level/ overhead. Manual dexterity is required for manipulation of hand tools, gripping, and removing glass cover from meters. Prolonged sitting is required for computer use and meter testing, (up to 75% of a typical work week). Prolonged standing of up to 2 hours daily is required for washing the meters. Tasks can be alternated to take sitting/standing breaks when needed. The above is a summary of the primary essential functions of the position.
