Job Description

Summary

The Analyst/Associate on the Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) team will be responsible for analyzing acquisition and divestment opportunities in the North American energy and renewable space (i.e. wind/solar/low carbon/thermal/energy storage/LNG). The M&A team reports to the Chief Development Office (CDO) and leads all growth acquisitions and strategic divestments for JERA Americas. The ideal candidate will be an ambitious, team player with a passion for power and/or energy, some experience in the aforementioned areas and a strong desire to learn and grow at a market leading power and energy company with global reach and strong decarbonization goals.

  • Support strategic initiatives for the company, helping to identify, prioritize, and execute on acquisition and divestment opportunities; communicate opportunities and ideas in real time to the broader team.
  • Support M&A activities in thermal, solar, wind, low carbon, and energy storage; coordinate and drive internal and external parties across all work streams to maximize value and minimize risk.
  • Share expertise and build knowledge with the internal team members and interface with external partners and consultants.
  • Create and manage budgets and schedules for acquisition and divestment projects.
  • Conduct origination, model development, due diligence oversight/organization (both internal and external counterparties), acquisition proposal document development, as well as support in negotiation, execution and closing of transactions.
  • Perform team management, risk management, and coordinate with all related functions (i.e. finance, risk, commercial, operations, etc.).

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

  • 4-year degree
  • 2+ years of experience in an analytical environment, including but not limited to power/utility investment banking, corporate finance, corporate development or other M&A / modeling field with an energy/power/fuel focus

Preferred Education and Experience

  • MBA
  • Experience throughout full M&A process
  • Experience in renewable, thermal, LNG M&A
  • Experience working with Independent Power Producers

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

  • Strong project and process management experience, both internal and external
  • Understanding the US power markets and policy
  • Demonstrated expertise in model development, M&A processes management, problem solving, organization and program management working with a diverse functional group.
