About the role

The ESS Mechanical Engineer at magniX will be responsible for the design and delivery of flight-qualified Energy Storage System (ESS) components and supporting sub-systems. The mechanical engineer will evaluate requirements and use cases and create and iterate mechanical design options. This work will include evaluating requirements and use cases, iterating on design options, leading the team creating the mechanical design documentation including analysis, models, and drawings, prepare plan for testing to verify the design, and supervise conduct of tests, analysis of results, and authoring of reports. This engineer will also be expected to oversee subcontractors contributing to the mechanical design and mentor junior engineers.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop innovative mechanical designs for the ESS, focusing on maximized energy density, optimized performance, manufacturability, and meeting certification requirements.
  • Lead the evaluation and selection of mechanical components for the Battery Modules and other ESS components.
  • Conduct trade studies on design and manufacturing options, identify early methods for risk reduction and technology development.
  • Coordinate complete design packages detailed drawings, analysis reports, BOMs, and assembly instructions.
  • Conduct reviews of designs, manufacturing plans, and test procedures to ensure compliance with design and performance requirements.
  • Collaborate with other design disciplines and departments to design and produce an integrated ESS (thermal/structural/systems/etc. engineers, supply chain, quality, manufacturing).
  • Support the test team to plan, execute, and assess results of ESS development and verification testing.
  • Support integration of the ESS into flying test beds and support flight test activities.


Qualifications

  • BS or higher in Engineering (Mechanical or related field).
  • Level III: 4-7 years experience or equivalent specialization in graduate education working with mechanical design of battery systems.
  • Level IV: 7+ years experience or equivalent specialization in graduate education working with mechanical design of battery systems.
  • Practical experience using 3D CAD (SOLIDWORKS) and PDM systems.
  • Experience with FAA certification of aircraft systems desired.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.


Location

  • Applicants must be willing and able to commute to magniX’s location in Everett, Washington.

This position’s approximate base salary range is $115,000 – $135,000 per year for a Level III engineer, and $140,000 – $160,000 per year for a Level IV engineer. Salary ranges are further determined by the experience of the candidate.

This position must meet export control compliance requirements. To meet export control compliance requirements, a U.S. Person as defined by 22 C.F.R. 120.15 is required. Under 120.15, a U.S. Person includes U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, refugees, or asylees. As this position requires access to export-controlled data, an appropriate export authorization by the U.S. Government may be required prior to such access.
