As a Mechanical Engineer at Good Carbon, you’ll have the opportunity to lead the strategic development of our energy systems, collaborating with a range of experts to bring visionary projects to life.

The following is a list of items the mechanical engineer is responsible for, but not limited to, leading:

Responsibilities:

Concept Development:

  • Collaborate with our architects, master tradesman and other engineers to develop and refine design concepts for net-zero multi-family buildings.
  • Research, analyze, and propose innovative building systems and technologies that optimize energy efficiency and sustainability.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and cost analyses for various design options.

Technical Design & Engineering:

  • Design, calculate, and specify HVAC, plumbing, and hot water systems and electrical for maximum energy efficiency and occupant comfort such as:
  • Heating and Cooling Equipment sizing
  • Duct sizing
  • Storage tank sizing
  • Piping and manifold specification
  • Safety relief valve sizing
  • Liquid pump sizing
  • Pressure drop calculations

Added plus:

  • Detailed electric load sizing calculation
  • Transformers and gear sizing
  • Lighting, power distribution, and communication systems
  • Perform load calculations for heating and cooling systems, ensuring compliance with energy code requirements.
  • Design and specifications for building heating, cooling, ventilation and domestic hot water systems and layouts.
  • Collaborate to select and specify building materials and equipment based on sustainability, performance, and cost considerations.
  • Design and specifications for EV charging infrastructure and electrical design (A Plus).

Documentation & Team Collaboration:

  • Develop and maintain accurate technical drawings, schematics, and specifications for all design aspects.
  • Coordinate with architects, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of systems and designs.
  • Participate in project meetings and manage assigned tasks within established deadlines and budgets.
  • Collaborate with our construction teams to ensure accurate implementation of design intent.
  • Identify and propose solutions to potential engineering challenges arising during construction.

Continuous Learning & Development:

  • Provide technical expertise in troubleshooting, Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and standards development to address system issues and enhance reliability.
  • Stay informed about the latest advancements in sustainable building technologies and design practices.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities and maintain relevant certifications.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field or minimum of 5+ years of experience designing and engineering commercial and residential buildings.
  • Proven experience in designing and specifying sustainable building systems, such as HVAC, high-performance plumbing, EV charging stations, and electrical systems. (A Plus)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Strong understanding of energy modeling software.
  • Commitment to sustainable design principles and practices.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and teamwork abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Manual J load calculations
  • Energy modeling and building simulation
  • CEM certification
  • BEMP certification
  • PE or FE certification
  • BPI building analyst certification
  • Experience with net-zero building projects.
  • Electrical Engineering/experience.

Pay: $68,000.00 – $100,000.00 per year
