Consistent with this focus, ERM is seeking an experienced professional to join our firm as a key client-facing energy sector subject matter expert. Our ideal candidate will have pre-existing client relationships and a proven record of winning work within the energy market.
ERM is structured to encourage collaboration and networking among regional offices, providing opportunities to collaborate with ERM’s national Low Carbon Energy Transition (LCET) team to share expertise and consulting opportunities. Our many leaders proactively work together to build strategies and campaigns around key business drivers for our clients, with the primary focus of finding and delivering high-profile rewarding projects and building our business.
This position focuses on providing technical and project management leadership with permitting and evaluating environmental impacts of energy projects. NEPA expertise (e.g., FERC permitting/EIS Development) is preferred for this position. Projects are often fast-paced, multi-faceted, and geographically diverse (including international), and may include oil and gas pipeline, LNG facility development, low carbon capital development, solar, onshore wind, offshore wind, energy storage and transmission. The position will require the candidate to work both independently and on project teams, and to possess the capacity to manage varying priorities and multiple tasks to work on concurrent projects and meet project deadlines. The candidate will serve as a Project Manager on multi-disciplinary projects with people management requirements as well as focus on the commercial development of ERM’s business. This position has growth potential into our Partner-track or Technical Director programs, depending on experience, interest, and qualifications.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage and provide technical expertise on NEPA environmental assessment (EA) and environmental impact statement (EIS) projects and related activities in support of ERM clients’ capital development projects (i.e., oil and gas, mining, as well as traditional and renewable power projects).
- Lead preparation of EAs/EISs and associated management plans in compliance with NEPA, client’s ESG requirements, and/or international guidelines and requirements. Contribute to preparing impact assessment deliverables, serving in roles ranging from lead technical expert to quality review. Perform project delivery activities such as report writing, data collection and survey field work, data and literature review, and development of recommendations for clients.
- Manage multi-media permitting and compliance associated with development projects with an emphasis on U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and State Historical Commissions.
- Demonstrate strong analytical skills, excellent writing and presentation skills, and a mastery of impactful client communication (i.e., technical and commercial communication skills).
- Oversee multiple projects within client’s scope/budget/schedule expectations and ensure quality standards on project deliverables.
- Prepare technical proposals, including development of technical scopes and cost estimates, and participate in business development with existing clients and identified leads. Maintain client relationships to support repeat business.
- Collaborate with other ERM IA practitioners to execute impact assessment projects (services within our IA service area include environmental impact assessment, land planning, facility siting & permitting, risk assessment and water resources management).
- Mentor junior- and mid-level consulting staff to develop their skill sets in the IA technical area.
- Build strong collaborative relationships with other ERM employees.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelors or Masters degree in environmental science, engineering or related field. Professional licensure, certification, or registration desired. Or the equivalency of 8+ years related experience in lieu of education.
- 5+ years (7+ years preferred) of impact assessment and multi-media permitting experience, including consulting for private-sector clients.
- ESHIA (Environmental, Social, and Health Impact Assessment) experience required.
- NEPA Expertise – FERC or other agency experience (applicant or third-party) is a plus.
- Demonstrable technical expertise and an established reputation in the local (Gulf Coast) marketplace.
- Understanding of the energy sector and the companies operating in this market, including existing relationships that can be leveraged into new business.
- Desire to develop commercially.
- Demonstrated understanding of the energy regulatory environment, key regulatory agencies, and current and emerging issues.
- Attention to detail and commitment to deliver quality work products.
- Demonstrated project management and leadership skills.
- Experience with line management and/or contributing to the professional development of other teammates.
- Enthusiasm, initiative, flexibility, and a desire to work in a growing team.
- Local candidates preferred.
