About the Role

Reporting to the Tax Senior Manager, the newly-created position of Manager, Tax will support US tax reporting and compliance for BREG’s private funds. More specifically, the role will involve assistance with US federal, state and local investor (K-1) reporting, tax compliance, tax authority audit activity and tax planning. The successful candidate will also support and facilitate knowledge sharing within the global BREG tax group. This role offers an excellent opportunity for career development and growth as a tax professional in a highly dynamic and challenging work environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage outsourced K-1 tax reporting for the Brookfield Global Transition Fund and related investment products sponsored by BREG, working closing with external service providers;
  • Ensure timely filing of US federal, state and local partnership and corporate tax returns;
  • Coordinate federal, state and local quarterly estimated tax payments as required;
  • Respond to tax correspondence with US taxing authorities and manage audits;
  • Maintain current US tax basis figures, earnings and profits balances and similar analyses;
  • Respond to private fund investor tax questions;
  • Review tax provision packages prepared by US portfolio companies;
  • Manage FATCA and CRS compliance processes; and
  • Assist other members of the global BREG tax team on various initiatives.

Knowledge and Experience Required

  • Qualified CPA with 6 to 8 years of experience working with energy, infrastructure, real estate or private equity funds in the tax group of a Big 4 or top-tier alternative investment firm;
  • Strong technical knowledge of US tax rules relating to partnerships in particular, in addition to corporations;
  • Familiarity with renewable credits helpful but not mandatory
  • Experience managing large tax compliance processes and assignments;
  • Basic understanding of cross-border tax issues and US treaty analysis;
  • Experience with tax accounting under US GAAP and/or IFRS
  • Able to communicate complex tax matters in a clear and concise manner;
  • Ability to multi-task and work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment;
  • Excellent project management skills and a pragmatic and efficient approach to handling complex assignments;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Strong Microsoft Office Suite skills as well as comfortable navigating new software technology.

Pay Range: $130k-170k/yr.
