Purpose
This position is responsible for managing a team of professionals responsible for System & Design Engineering. As a leader within the Utility, the manager will support the senior management team to define the Utility strategy and plans, including the long-term capital plan. The incumbent is accountable for ensuring the engineering solutions designed and planned by their team are appropriate and reflect Liberty strategy and standards as well as regulatory standards and industry best practices.
Accountabilities
- Oversees and guides teams that develop solutions to engineering problems related to assets and systems or the causes of component failures.
- Guides system analysis for the purpose of monitoring performance and identifying requirements for system upgrades or enhancements.
- Coordinates development of the capital plan, in support of the Utility leadership team – this can include definition of capital projects, business cases, IRP & capital plan.
- Executes work with new technology requiring Technical Knowledge of SAP EAM, DDS and GIS and supports team members to effectively adopt and become proficient with new tools.
- Manages the long-term reliability planning, system integrity, protection systems and equipment and system improvements and upgrades based on system performance.
- Leads system design, automation, and modernization planning for local systems.
- Supports local and enterprise leadership in the analysis and definition of the roadmap for modernization of the utility to reflect customer needs, environmental policy & regulatory change, trends in the future of the electric grid.
- Oversees the quality of designs (in GIS/DDS) for both internal and contractor engineering resources.
- Develop and counsel direct reports on issues of company policy, handling of union relations, establishment of best practices and any other areas pertaining to the department goals and strategy.
- Leads the embedding of enterprise processes within their department – engaging staff within and across departments to continuously improve upon process implementation and design.

- Establish clear communication of departmental expectations, goals and procedures and ensure direct reports meet both divisional and company objectives.
- Work to develop, establish, and implement clear operating and productivity targets for the Engineering Group.
- Owns team productivity outcomes and monitors team productivity to establish a clear link between the level of performance and the need for additional training coaching, counseling and/or discipline.
- Promotes customer satisfaction through communication, responsiveness, and quality workmanship for all direct reports.
- Acts as direct liaison for company in all aspects of communication with City & Town Municipalities.
Education and Experience
- Must possess a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or a related Degree from an accredited four-year college or university.
- 10+ Years’ experience in distribution system design, engineering and planning, preferred.
- PE certification in related Engineering fields preferred.
