Position Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Rail Transportation and Logistics Coordinator to join our team. This role will play a crucial part in managing the daily operations of our rail fleet, ensuring timely and efficient delivery to our terminals and customers. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, and a solid understanding of railcar fleet maintenance, data management, and transportation logistics.

Reporting to Supervisor Rail Operations and Fleet Planning.

Key Responsibilities

Railcar Management

  • Track, trace and exception management of cars in transit and work with railroads, internal and external stakeholders and others to resolve any railroad issues.
  • Communicate delays to key stakeholders (ex. sales/customer service teams)
  • Escalate issues with both Commercial and Operations Management as needed
  • Monitor and communicate changes to transit times based on transit performance or other unplanned operational issues (environmental events, strikes, etc.)
  • Execute diversion and re-bill requests for both loaded and empty cars
  • Manage rail service exceptions and incidents by way of railroad case management
  • Monitor and manage empty railcars movements insuring cars are traveling under current billing.
  • Issue new empty car billing as required for fleet realignment or maintenance requirements.
  • Provide assistance to shipping locations with railcar billing/ releases as required.
  • Assist in customer supply reliability complaint investigations and mitigations
  • Collaborate internally on supply reliability improvement opportunities
  • Monitor onsite and in-transit railcar utilization; work with railroads, customer and railcar storage providers to move empty and loaded railcars efficiently in order to minimize/mitigate demurrage exposure and improve equipment utilization.

Railcar Fleet Maintenance

  • Facilitate the railcar maintenance programs, addressing bad orders, planning yearly compliance programs, and coordinating necessary maintenance activities, per established parameters.

Rail Administration

Document rates in SharePoint for empty and loaded rail movements.

  • Assist freight payables with resolving invoice issues for all logistic related services (rail rate discrepancies, empty covered hopper car movements, demurrage, etc.); work issues with carriers as needed Under Rail Fleet or should we have an Administration section
  • Rail PO administration for empty moves, leases, and repairs
  • Develop and manage rail car reports for key stakeholders to assist in railcar tracking and delivery performance improvements.
  • Maintain vendor profiles, including contact names, numbers address, capabilities and agreements.
  • Assist Supervisor Rail Operations and Fleet Planning and the Supply Chain Team with collection and publication of month end rail reporting, KPIs and account reconciliations.

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities for delivery performance improvement through metrics and data evaluation
  • Assist Logistics Manager and Supervisor Rail Operations and Fleet Planning with carrier negotiations and agreements, and in various continuous improvement projects and initiatives to reduce costs through improving transit times, reducing storage, diversions & empty car repositioning cost
  • Maintain associated KPIs and ensure targets are met
  • Analyze gaps in service, recommend solutions, and implement agreed upon actions
  • Provide support the Supply Chain team and projects as required.
  • Complete and maintain route determinations 286 #Gross Weight on Rail

Qualifications

  • Rail experience (3-5 Years); Preferred: Experience with bulk rail shipments a plus
  • Highly preferred: Bachelors Degree in Supply Chain Management /Logistics or Business
  • Strong initiative and motivation to understand the business, identify, investigate, and take action on value creation opportunities.
  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills; able to adapt the message to the audience.
  • Financial and business acumen.
  • Adaptability and flexibility; ability to function in a dynamic environment.
  • Problem solving, analytical, organization, and time management skills.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and collaboration skills.
  • Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel.
  • JDE experience preferred.
  • Experience utilizing railcar tracking software.
  • Strong commitment to safety.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of time.
