Job Description

Job Summary:

The Lab manager will direct the technical activities, operations, planning, and policy development of the lab, including coordinating the activities of multiple, complex projects and staff to ensure quality control and compliance with regulations.

The candidate will be responsible for the lab maintenance, clinical trial protocols, and management of research specimens. The candidate will also conduct research experiments with limited supervision. Provide technical support with some degree of independence for research projects under moderate supervision.

Responsibilities:

Directs the technical activities, operations, planning, and policy development of a lab, including coordinating the activities of multiple, complex projects and staff to ensure quality control and compliance with regulations.

  • 20% Identifies, proposes, and implements new or revised unit operational policies and procedures in alignment with strategic initiatives and objectives
  • 20% Serves as the unit liaison to internal and external stakeholder groups providing information, making recommendations to leadership, and representing the interests of the unit
  • 10% Directs and supervises the day-to-day laboratory operations, quality control programs, and/or staff of a work unit to ensure compliance with organization and regulatory agency standards
  • 10% Monitors program budgets and expenditures
  • 10% May exercise supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 FTE or equivalent employees
  • 10% Develops and facilitates trainings regarding scientific experimentation, technical procedures, and equipment operations to various audiences
  • 20% Manages research workflow components, interfaces with CRCs , including IRB, collects, prepares, processes, and submits participant data and samples to appropriate entities, adhering to research protocols

Bachelor’s Degree

Qualifications:

Required
  • Experience developing and managing budgets, tracking expenses, and research billing compliance
  • Demonstrated project management experience
  • Proven track record as an independent team leader using initiative and good judgment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in all aspects of research including study set-up, compliance and close out

Preferred

  • Knowledge of government regulations and guidelines with respect to human subjects research and familiarity with available institutional and public resources
  • Experience with managing samples, overseeing data collection and entry
  • Experience with writing, set-up, conduct, and close-out of IRB protocols and associated records
  • Previous research management experience in an academic setting.
  • More than four years of progressively increasing responsibilities in budgeting, research administration, fiscal management and reporting

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Salary:

Minimum $79,521 ANNUAL (12 months)

Additional Information:
