Job Summary:

The King-Morgridge Scholars (KM Scholars) Program is a scholarship program that was launched in 2017 through the generous support of Bob and Dottie King and John and Tashia Morgridge. The KM Scholars Program is for exceptional undergraduate students from Africa, the Caribbean, Latin America, South Asia, and Southeast Asia. Selected for their drive, academic success, and commitment to addressing issues of poverty in their own countries, King-Morgridge Scholars receive a full-time, four-year/eight-semester undergraduate scholarship to the University of Wisconsin-Madison that includes round-trip airfare, tuition and fees, room and board, health insurance, and a stipend for miscellaneous expenses. Funding for a fifth year of study is also currently available. The program is currently comprised of 24 undergraduate scholars, who are accepted in cohorts of up to 6-scholars per year.

The Program Manager is the point of contact for the KM Scholars from the time of acceptance to graduation. The Program Manager supports the scholars in all their academic, professional/career, and personal pursuits. They also manage the disbursement of scholars’ financial awards and manage travel. In collaboration with colleagues, the Program Manager plans programming and activities throughout the year, in addition to an annual spring break trip. Lastly, this individual plays an instrumental role in cultivating a trusting, cohesive, and joyful community among the group. The KM Scholars Program Manager reports to the Associate Dean of High Impact Programs within the International Division.

Responsibilities:

Leads the development, implementation, and ongoing operations of one or more academic programs to ensure effectiveness in meeting strategic, departmental, and student development goals. May manage the program budget and outreach activities and supervise program staff. Strives to create a welcoming, equitable, and inclusive work environment.

  • 5% Leads the development and implementation of academic program initiatives
  • 5% Serves as the liaison to internal and external stakeholder groups to identify and maintain academic program-related partnerships
  • 5% Identifies, proposes, and implements new or revised unit operational policies and procedures to comply with regulations, institutional policies, and academic program objectives
  • 5% Evaluates existing academic program strategy and makes recommendations to unit leadership for program enhancement
  • 10% May manage the unit budget and approve unit expenditures
  • 5% Assists stakeholders with preparing and/or maintaining documentation, financial management, and/or reporting requirements related to sponsored grants, contracts, or agreements
  • 30% Provides full service advising resources and services, provides information about educational options and academic requirements, and communicates directly with students regarding all aspects of the advising process
  • 15% Manages degree programs and/or certificates, high impact practice programming and events, and curriculum development and implementation
  • 10% Oversees and manages the KM Scholar selection process in coordination with the Office of Admissions
  • 5% Assists KM Scholars with travel plans
  • 5% Connects with KM Scholar alumni

Tasks:

  • Meet with King-Morgridge Scholars to offer support and guidance in their academic and professional pursuits and personal lives.
  • Plan activities and programming that align with their academic and career interests, as well as international development and poverty alleviation.
  • Host an orientation for incoming scholars which includes a homestay, assignment of a peer partner, and shopping outings.
  • Plan and lead a spring break trip for the scholars.
  • Work with Admissions to facilitate the review process for the King-Morgridge Scholars, including the recruitment and training of reviewers.
  • Manage the disbursement of scholar stipends, reimbursements for expenses covered by the program, and third-party billing with the Bursar’s Office.
  • Support students in travel planning and the purchasing of tickets home.
  • Facilitate channels of communication between the KM Scholar Program and alumni.
  • Build relationships on campus that provide opportunities for connection and involvement for scholars.
  • Be responsible for the use of a university purchasing card.
  • Be eligible and able to drive a university van.
  • Use Excel and the Student Information System (SIS) to pull data for reporting to the International Division Dean’s Office and donors.
  • Willingness and ability to work after business hours 4-5 times a semester, and be away for a week over spring break.

A minimum of 3-years of work experience in higher education (post-graduation).
Professional or personal experiences in multicultural and/or multilingual environments.

Demonstrated ability to manage a program/initiative independently.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with international students.
Experience in one of the geographic regions targeted by the scholarship (Africa, Caribbean, Latin American, South Asia, and Southeast Asia).
Demonstrated knowledge of student development theory and how to put it into practice.
Experience working with academic and/or career services advising.

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.
