Job Description

Job Summary:

Would you like to use your creativity and collaboration skills to develop educational materials for lifelong learners? The Learning Design and Technologies (LDT) Team at InterPro is hiring an Instructional Specialist in support of our Professional Development and Graduate Programs. The primary purpose of this role is to provide support for course development and delivery operations, to include:
  • Complete review, edits, and delivery of instructional materials
  • Manage instructional material templates, checklists, and timelines
  • Import, build, and review course sites to align with quality standards
  • Manage a high-volume of production requests

Additionally, an important part of this role will be supervising a team of student employees (approximately 4). This will encompass recruitment, managing schedules, and distributing workload.

InterPro (The Office of Interdisciplinary Professional Programs) is in the UW Madison, College of Engineering. Our mission is to advance the Wisconsin Idea by delivering professional education programs and learning services to individuals and organizations. We strive to offer a portfolio of professional education programs and services focused on the needs of engineers, managers, technical professionals and partner organizations, to guide them into the future.

Responsibilities:

Assists with or supports the design, development, and enhancement of instructional activities, programs, and curricula. Utilizes effective educational methodologies and technologies to meet organizational and learner needs.

  • 15% Assists with the design and development of engaging, effective learning experiences which may be face-to-face, blended, and/or online
  • 20% Completes initial edits, reviews, and updates of existing instructional materials
  • 5% Contributes to researching, designing, and/or acquiring learning resources, technologies, materials, and/or processes to support learning
  • 5% Assists with providing basic training and technical support to learners in settings such as classrooms, labs, clinics, and distance learning mediums
  • 10% Provides consultation, training, and/or support for learning technology tools and platforms
  • 10% Analyzes, tests, troubleshoots, resolves issues, and provides feedback regarding learning technologies
  • 5% Provides support for collecting, organizing, interpreting, and disseminating data to identify instructional program needs and enhance effectiveness
  • 10% Assists with the design and development of multimedia learning materials
  • 5% Provides support for faculty development and engagement programs and activities
  • 15% Supervision and management of student employees

Education:

Required
Associate’s Degree OR one year of experience working with adult instructional/educational materials

Qualifications:

Required
  • People/Project management skills: examples include task management, workload delegation, backward planning, management of people or roles; prioritizing competing projects
  • Collaboration skills: examples include prior work on a team to complete a project, regular discussions with team members to develop processes/standards, idea sharing to enhance creativity, coordinating handoff of work across teams
  • Communication skills: examples include providing clear and concise written and verbal instructions, active listening, asking questions, communicating status updates to key stakeholders, inquire on status/follow-up, request support, and customer service support
  • Comfortable learning new tools and technology; examples include transitioning to new software and systems; troubleshooting technical issues; optimizing processes through the use of technology
  • Experience with Microsoft PowerPoint: examples include ability to change slide templates, add or remove slide content effects, develop themes for formatting, add video into a slide

Preferred:

  • Experience with Asana, Adobe Acrobat and InDesign
  • Experience with content management or design related to adult educational materials
  • Leadership experience: prior supervision or management role
  • Strong attention to detail

Work Type:

Full Time: 100%

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.

Salary:

Minimum $50,000 ANNUAL (12 months)
