Job Description

The Head of Development will be responsible for overseeing the development of solar, solar + storage, and standalone battery energy storage projects. This role requires leadership in project management, economic analysis, negotiation, and transactional support across the portfolio. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in the energy sector, with a focus on developing energy infrastructure in Eastern U.S. power markets such as PJM, MISO, SERC, ISONE, and NYISO. Strong financial analysis skills, the ability to communicate complex concepts, and a proactive drive to advance projects are essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage multiple projects from early development through to Notice to Proceed (NTP), financial close, or sale. This includes securing sites, managing real estate and environmental permitting, conducting site studies, negotiating tax abatements, engaging with local communities, and coordinating interconnection activities.
  • Lead both internal and external project development teams, ensuring successful execution of all project development activities.
  • Collaborate with technical, engineering, finance, and asset management teams to align on strategies, assess risks, and validate project valuation assumptions.
  • Provide guidance and support to the greenfield development team, leveraging extensive industry experience to offer valuable input.
  • Oversee project schedules and budgets while contributing to financial modeling efforts. Monitor and report changes in financial performance as development progresses.
  • Develop and refine processes, workflows, and risk review frameworks, incorporating defined risk tolerance metrics for utility-scale projects at various development stages.
  • Partner with the M&A team to support external engagements with project sellers, conduct initial screenings, and manage due diligence processes.

Skills and Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in utility-scale renewable energy project development, with a strong preference for experience in PJM, MISO, SERC, ISONE, and/or NYISO markets.
  • Proven experience leading and managing teams, with a track record of successfully overseeing direct reports.
  • Strong leadership, collaboration, and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional, multi-department teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining a high level of attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated and capable of working with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively on short notice, both by plane and car.
  • For remote candidates, the ability to travel regularly to corporate headquarters.
