The Position
Valta Energy is currently seeking a Head of Development to support our teams in the Western Region of the United States with a focus on Southern California.
Responsibilities
- As our Head of Development, you will be responsible for completing all development activities and supporting acquisitions of renewable energy projects throughout the Western Region of the United States, with a focus on Southern California.
- Lead all stages of project development, from early-stage inception or acquisition diligence through handover to the construction team, and ultimately to the date of commercial operations
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the successful implementation of our renewable energy projects
- Oversee a team of 2-3 renewable energy developers, providing guidance, mentorship, and support to ensure team growth and project success
- Identify and evaluate new opportunities for renewable energy projects, conducting market research, feasibility studies, and financial analyses
- Cultivate relationships with key project stakeholders including landowners, government agencies, local communities, etc.
- Complete all permitting, building, electrical, and any discretionary, required to construct the project.
- Collaborate closely with engineering, construction, finance, legal and other teams to streamline project development processes and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations
- Overall P&L responsibility for regional project portfolio; monitor financial targets, implementing strategies to optimize project outcomes and mitigate risks
- Stay informed about industry trends, technological advancements, and regulatory changes in the renewable energy sector
Minimum Requirements
- Undergraduate degree in Engineering, business administration, Construction, Environmental Science or equivalent
- 8-10+ years of experience in renewable energy project development, with a focus on solar
- Strong leadership skills with a track record of successfully managing and motivating cross-functional teams.
- Expertise in project evaluation.
- In-depth knowledge and experience of key project contracts: power purchase agreements, generator interconnection agreements, equipment supply contracts, partnership and purchase and sale contracts, and operation and maintenance contracts.
- In-depth understanding of the creation and experience of electricity supply RFP processes.
- Clear understanding of development processes and procedures (real estate, environment, permitting, interconnection and transmission, financing and outreach), development timelines and stakeholders involved in successful project development. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, MS Project, PowerPoint).
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Effective communication skills (verbal, written and presentation) with a focus on interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively on multiple projects at the same time at various stages of development.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in renewable energy specifically rooftop solar project development or construction

Salary Range: $160,000 – $200,000 (Based on Experience)
