Fleet & Equipment Commercial Manager

Summary

The Fleet & Equipment Commercial Manager will play a pivotal role in driving the commercial success of our utility-scale solar and BESS projects. They will directly engage with the company’s Fleet & Equipment team. The ideal candidate will be passionate about renewable energy, equipment tracking, possess strong communication and influential skills, and have a proven track record in project management, construction cost control, negotiation, risk management, and contract management.

This position reports to the Senior Director of Commercial Management, or another senior management personnel that the President of the Company may designate. This position is based in the Ankeny, IA office. Working hours are Monday through Friday, from 8:00am to 5:00pm or 9:00am to 6:00pm. This position may be required to travel up to 10% of the time.

Essential Job Function & Responsibilities

  • Take a lead role in commercial activities for the Fleet & Equipment group including financial and contractual aspects.
  • Maintain master equipment list for all of Self-Perform Construction
  • Collaborate closely with project directors, managers, and construction leaders to achieve project objectives within specified constraints.
  • Act as a key stakeholder in equipment and tooling negotiations, ensuring favorable terms and compliance with company standards.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify risks and opportunities, developing strategies to mitigate damage risks and capitalize on equipment acquisition opportunities.
  • Spearhead vendor conflicts and management. This includes negotiating equipment credits and payment disputes with all vendors. Validate accuracy of vendor invoicing.
  • Assist in invoice submission.
  • Develop and implement strategies to ensure adherence to contractual obligations and company policies across assigned projects.
  • Prepare detailed monthly executive reports, including variance analysis, risk logs, forecasts, and change logs.
  • Conduct weekly reconciliation of resource spending and trends.
  • Complete weekly project performance reviews, providing feedback and recommendations to enhance project performance.
  • Initiate recommendations for project cost control plans and procedures.
  • Participate in equipment deployment schedules development and review weekly.
  • Analyze the project budget, and advise on deviations in cost tracking and forecasting.
  • Engage with stakeholders to align expectations with Fleet & Equipment goals.
  • Ensure project level compliance with reporting standards and project management practices.
  • Monitor equipment utilization via project management software (HeavyJob) to facilitate accurate job costing, estimation, and forecasting.
  • Assist with the entry of fleet and equipment rates and supporting documentation into Qcells asset management software and construction management software (Procore)
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by Senior Management.
  • Regular attendance, in accordance with the company’s attendance policy and supervisory assignment, is an essential job duty requirement for this position.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 3+ years combined work experience in Project Controls, Business, or other applicable fields.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant tools.
  • Have insight to highlight key risk factors and advise EPC cost estimates.
  • Capability to interact with leadership cross-culturally, both within and outside the organization.
  • Have a strong passion for equipment and tooling with applicable knowledge to use in negotiation with all vendors.
  • Have both a near-term action orientation, and a strong desire to continuously improve and push limits.
  • Strong team player with a high degree of professionalism in which one conducts self at all times.
  • Willingness to travel as required, up to 10%.

SALARY RANGE FOR POSITION

The anticipated starting pay range of this position, which is to be located in Irvine, CA is $120,000 – $145,000 base salary per year.

The above-listed salary range is required by the California Pay Transparency Act and may differ depending on the location of those candidates hired nationwide. The salary range shared in the job description is for the listed position and only pertains to the candidate if they work in Irvine, CA. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to internal pay equity, skill set, education, licenses and certifications, geographic location, essential job duties and requirements, and the necessary experience relative to the job’s minimum qualifications. An additional discretionary bonus structure or incentives may be offered as part of the overall compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, dental, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
