Job Description

Do you want to help build real technology for a meaningful purpose? Do you want to fight to make the world’s fresh produce healthier, tastier, and more sustainable?

As a Field Robotics Technician at Tortuga, you’ll help in the deployment of our technology supporting the field operators by keeping the robots maintained and functional. You’ll learn about our full robotic stack – so that you can help to fix problems as they happen, or even before they happen. You’ll help maintain our robot fleet, performing mechanical and electrical fixes and maintenance. You’ll work as a critical team member to deliver a robotic picking service for the first time in history.

As an early team member, you’ll directly build our success, growth, and culture. You’ll thrive in a fast-paced, flexible, and energized startup environment. You are excited to grow your role as Tortuga grows, and will be compensated with market salary, competitive benefits, and equity.

What You’ll Do

  • Work closely on our Operations team to operate our robot fleet on California commercial farms; in offseasons, potential travel abroad to deploy on farms (e.g. UK, Spain, USA)
  • Work with the engineering team in Denver to identify and track issues in the field, capture critical data, and rapidly problem-solve solutions across operations, software, and hardware
  • Work within Operations to run production picking, diagnose issues and possible solutions, and coordinate with the Denver-based team
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on our robot fleet to maximize uptime

What We’re Looking For

  • Required: Technical training or degree in related field, Associates, Engineering Bachelor’s degree, or similar relevant experience (ASE mechanic, HVAC technician, etc.)
  • Required: Field experience, solving technical challenges with complex equipment
  • Required: Exceptional ability to learn, troubleshoot, and problem-solve across technical disciplines, especially mechanical skills
  • Required: Exceptional communication skills, in engineering and English
  • Required: Excitement and maturity to execute on operations while coordinating with customers
  • Nice to have: Experience with Fleet Management, inventory management, issue-tracking software (e.g. Jira, Google Suite)
  • Nice to have: Experience with Linux

Please note you must be authorized to work in the US for this position.

The hourly rate pay range below represents the low and high end of our range for this position. Actual pay may vary and may be above or below the range, based on various factors including but not limited to experience, education, and responsibilities.

Santa Marian, CA and Nipomo, CA area pay range: $23 – $32 / hour
