About The Program Office

The Department of Energy’s (DOE) Industrial Efficiency & Decarbonization Office (IEDO) accelerates the innovation and adoption of cost-effective technologies that eliminate industrial greenhouse gas emissions. IEDO fosters the research, development, demonstration, and deployment of these technologies to achieve energy security, economic growth, and environmental benefits for the nation.

About The Role

The DOE IEDO is working to increase Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) and Environmental Justice (EJ) through various outreach efforts, initiatives, and funding opportunities. The Environmental Justice Specialist position will support IEDO’s EJ efforts and help the office advance the Biden Administration’s Justice40 Initiative, which has set a goal that 40 percent of the overall benefits of certain Federal investments flow to disadvantaged communities that are marginalized, underserved, and overburdened by pollution.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a strategy to coordinate Energy, Equity, and Environmental Justice (EEEJ) objectives and programs for IEDO that leverages and complements previous and existing work to maximize the impact of IEDO’s programs and activities.
  • Integrate with IEDO Technical Programs to understand technical goals/priorities of the Program and identify and propose how EEEJ can be integrated into IEDO’s program activities.
  • Collaborate with other DOE offices, programs, and working groups focused on EEEJ objectives.
  • Lead IEDO’s engagement with key EEEJ stakeholders.
  • Analyze and interpret DOE, EERE, and Administration EEEJ guidance and propose how and what to implement within IEDO.
  • Stay current with EEEJ news and trainings; summarize and disseminate information to IEDO staff.
  • Participate in meetings with IEDO – to include leaders at all levels of the agency and others, as needed – related to EEEJ.
  • Assist IEDO staff in developing EEEJ metrics for funding opportunity announcements, project milestones, and final deliverables.
  • Clearly communicate data analysis, findings, conclusions, and recommendations through oral (e.g. PowerPoint presentations) and written reports (e.g., white papers, memoranda, information papers, emails, reports) to a variety of audiences, including senior leaders.
  • Write and maintain supporting documentation, Stakeholder Engagement Plans, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and guidelines for data cleaning and process documentation.
  • Support annual, quarterly, and ad hoc internal and external reporting requirements for the agency by preparing and delivering briefings and reports as needed for both technical and non-technical audiences.

Requirements

  • Located in the Washington, DC Area with a hybrid work arrangement.
  • Bachelor’s Degree with 5+ years of relevant experience or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of federal DEIA and EJ efforts including Justice40 Initiative.
  • Demonstrated oral/written skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be US citizen.
  • Successful drug screening.
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a security or clearance badge.
