Position Overview

The Engineering Manager will lead a team to design, install, run, maintain and analyze test systems for separation process development, including pressure-swing adsorption (PSA) and temperature-swing adsorption (TSA) and membrane-based separations. The team will collaborate with Numat’s scientists early in application identification to provide technical targets for material discovery programs. This person will then be responsible for designing and executing appropriate testing at bench-top and pilot scale to progress technology maturity.

Responsibilities

  • Design of bench-scale and pilot scale testing-systems that generate reproducible, high-quality data for material testing and process demonstration
  • Separation application identification in collaboration with Numat’s scientists
  • Process validation, optimization and design for PSA, TSA and membrane-based separation processes
  • Preliminary Flow sheet and heat and material balance development
  • Basic engineering design for pilot and demo-scale separation skids and to support Techno-economic analyses
  • IP generation for novel separation technology

Qualifications

  • PhD in Chemical Engineering (preferred); MS, BS in Chemical Engineering (considered)
  • Minimum 5+ years industry experience required
  • Expertise in gas adsorption and mass transfer
  • Experience in process technology development for dynamic adsorption systems
  • Experience commercializing process technology
  • Experience designing, validating and running test systems for adsorbent characterization and
  • process development
  • Experience in measurement system analysis and Six Sigma
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, resource-constrained, entrepreneurial environment where everyone must play multiple roles
  • Willing to be hands on in all facets of the operations – no job is too big or small (familiarity with basic tools, shop experience preferred)
  • Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, and cross-cultural communication skills: able to distill complex information and present clearly
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
