Job Description

This is a full-time temporary, benefit-based position with an anticipated end date of June 30, 2025.

The Energy Program Manager will report to the Director and will be responsible for leading and managing SDRCCs Energy Resilience program and projects. The Energy Program Manager will provide technical and research support as well as project management to fulfill contracts and commitments specifically on regional energy efforts, including decarbonization, resilience, energy codes & standards and zero-net energy practices. They will support SDRCC programs by leading necessary outreach and engagement opportunities, and coordinated partnerships.

The San Diego Regional Climate Collaborative (SDRCC) advances climate change solutions and expertise across the San Diego Region. The University of San Diego serves as Fiscal Sponsor for SDRCC which is currently housed at The Nonprofit Institute. Established in 2002 in the School of Leadership and Education Sciences (SOLES), The Nonprofit Institute (NPI) provides research, technical consulting, convening, and training to develop community leaders and organizations. SDRCC staff members are expected to regularly engage with and participate in NPI programs, meetings, and activities as needed to support our collective missions and goals.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Lead and Manage Regional Energy Resilience Program and Projects:

  • Program & Project Management: Lead and ensure the successful implementation of SDRCCs Energy Program. With guidance from the Director, execute all necessary research, administration, communication and programmatic goals.
  • Provide Research and Technical Support: Research and support development of work needed to fulfill projects, contracts and commitments specifically on regional energy resilience and best practices.
  • Support Technical Data Research and Development: Support work that elevates the use of new energy resilience tools and data deliverables; such as ESRI story maps, community driven datasets, surveys, etc.
  • Support SDRCC Network Meetings: Lead the planning and execution of network meetings with energy focus, arrange speakers, create agendas, and compile needed materials
  • Manage Regional Energy Resilience Working Group: Facilitate, organize, and coordinate bi-monthly working group meetings, support the working group executive committee, as well and member communications.
  • Support Sustained Engagement & Outreach and Regional Dialogues: Participate in energy resilience dialogues specific to SDRCC projects and network needs, promote and share collaborative success stories, explore opportunities for new regional partnerships, outreach and leverage findings

Support Other Climate Resilience Programs and Projects:

  • Provide Research and Technical Support: Support the production of specific guidance and tools for regional resiliency activities and plans, such as white papers, one pagers, and multimedia content
  • Assist with Technical Data Research: Support work that elevates the use of new coastal resilience tools and data deliverables; such as ESRI story maps, geospatial datasets, conducting and aggregating surveys, etc.
  • Project Support for Engagement & Outreach: Support core SDRCC core programming in planning and execution of meetings and dialogues, arrange speakers, create agendas, and compile needed materials
  • Support Environment Program Integration: Provide support on diverse environmental program areas and help to identify synergies and opportunities for collaboration and streamlining
  • Support Building and Maintaining Relationships: Participate in community dialogues, support environment team members and help identify opportunities for collaboration and development

Support SDRCC Administration:

  • Assist the Director and staff, the Climate Collaborative Network and Supporting Membership: assisting current members in sustaining engagement and navigating changes as well as supporting new members.
  • Assist the Director and staff of the Climate Collaborative and the Advisory Board: supporting Board meetings, including through scheduling, creation of agendas, and facilitating meetings.
  • Assist the Director and staff in Fundraising Efforts: including but not limited to grant writing to support long-term Climate Collaborative programming efforts
  • Assist the Director and staff to develop content for the newsletter, website, and other Climate Collaborative communication and outreach materials.

Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • College degree in a sustainability related field, environmental science, urban planning or public policy required
  • 2-4 years of experience working in fields related to energy, climate, sustainability, public policy, resilience planning preferred – this may include a combination of professional and relevant academic experience
  • Strong background in quantitative and qualitative data analysis skills and experience; specifically experience with statistical software such as ArcGIS, Microsoft Excel, or R-Programming
  • Strong background in data synthesis and creating summary findings
  • Sensitivity and demonstrated competence in working with diverse populations
  • Strong written and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Graduate Degree in related field strongly preferred, graduate degree may substitute for 1-year of experience
  • Interest or experience working with local cities and agencies, nonprofits and community groups
  • Experience researching public policy and conducting academic literature reviews
  • GIS mapping experience strongly preferred
  • Experience analyzing data from publicly available government data sources such as the U.S. Census, Bureau of Labor Statistics, California Department of Finance, and SANDAG strongly preferred

  • Analyze and make thoughtful suggestions and execution on the design and implementation of Climate Collaborative Energy Program priorities and projects.
  • Coordinate work with local and regional agencies.
  • Communicate clearly, both in the written and spoken word, and to write, edit, proofread, research, and report.
  • Exercise judgment and leadership skills to make decisions under uncertainty.
  • Demonstrate tact, diplomacy, and discretion in dealing with sensitive complex issues.
  • Principles and practices of climate change, adaptation, climate resilience, energy management and general sustainability.
  • Pertinent local, State, and Federal regulations and laws related to energy and climate change.
  • Principles and practices of effective writing, photos, video, and communication.

Posting Salary:

$5,547 – $5,625 per month; Excellent Benefits

The salary range provided in this posting reflects what we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Actual compensation offered or earned is dependent on experience, education and other factors including departmental budget.
