Description

Do you get excited about helping utilities achieve efficiency, load management, and decarbonization goals through customer-facing programs? Do you have a passion for making complex data and analysis actionable and clear?

If so, we’d love to talk to you!

We’re seeking a research analyst to join our Customer Energy Solutions research and advisory team. Our ideal candidate has senior-level expertise and experience, but we’d consider a more junior candidate who is eager to learn and grow. As an analyst, you’ll provide actionable, data-driven advice to our utility clients, with a focus on midstream and upstream energy efficiency programs, utility industry trade allies, and demand response.

ESource provides predictive data science, research and advisory, and solution services to help utilities make decisions that benefit their customers, their bottom line, and our planet.

What You’ll Do

  • Serve as our in-house expert on midstream/upstream energy efficiency programs, utility industry trade allies, and demand response.
  • Write and present clear and concise responses to research and advisory requests from utility members about energy efficiency and demand response programs.
  • Gather research from primary and secondary sources (including phone interviews, internet searches, and in-depth reading), critically analyze the information, and write up key findings and best practices in a way that’s easy for audiences of varying technical skills to understand.
  • Create clear, concise, data-driven, and action-oriented content for topically focused reports, articles, technical briefs, webinars, and in-person events.
  • Engage with utility members through in-person and virtual meetings and customized presentations on various efficiency and demand response program topics.
  • Grow to give strategic input to our research agenda and coach research deliverables.
  • Occasionally represent E Source as a subject-matter expert at industry conferences and events.

What Will Make You a Good Fit

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • At least five years of professional experience researching or working in relevant topical areas.
  • Demonstrated interest in energy-efficiency, with an emphasis on midstream/upstream and demand response programs and trends preferred.
  • Ability to synthesize information to create actionable, succinct data-driven stories.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to set clear expectations, communicate regularly with internal and external clients regarding project milestones and status, deliver on established deadlines, and share research results in an easy-to-understand manner.
  • Exceptional research, analytical, writing, document preparation, and presentation creation skills.
  • Ability to work independently, with a sense of urgency, creativity, and decisiveness in an environment with tight deadlines and abstract work products.
  • A passion for conducting interviews and reading dense documents, and distilling their key points into actionable, clear, and easy-to-understand written communication.
  • Exceptional writing, verbal, and analytical skills. E Source differentiates itself through our readable, clear, and concise reports and presentations.

Role

Who is an ideal candidate for this role

  • Research experience and passion. You’re a research professional with an impressive track record. We’d prefer a candidate with at least five years of experience. You have experience planning and delivering research projects of varying size, scope, and time frames. We’d prefer a candidate with experience in energy efficiency, demand response, midstream/upstream programs, and utility industry trade allies.
  • Humility, a collaborative attitude, and a team-first mindset. You know there are things you don’t know, and that energizes you. You believe two brains are better than one, and you proactively seek support, advice, and guidance from others. You’re proficient at working across multiple teams to accomplish large and small goals.
  • Creativity and openness. You aren’t afraid to share your ideas for how we might do things differently, and you’re comfortable with divergent thinking.
  • An affinity for data. You seek good, comprehensive data to inform your decisions, while also acknowledging that sometimes you must rely on your judgement.
  • A strategic, growth-focused mind. You see many paths for growth, but you also know that investing in one thing means not investing in another. You ask great questions and think through the risks and opportunities of decisions.
  • Rigor and discipline. You understand that without discipline and process, big ideas don’t go far. You appreciate effective processes and actively work to improve flawed ones. You manage your time well and your coworkers can count on you to do what you say you’ll do.
  • Industry experience. We’d prefer if you had experience working in or with electric, gas, or dual-fuel utilities.
