Overview:
Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is seeking an Electrical Design Technican to join our renewables team in Denver! This position will be responsible for designing elements of utility-scale solar energy systems, primarily using AutoCAD. You’ll be utilizing AutoCAD to create construction documents and perform quantity takeoffs, including site layouts, wire/cable routing plans, one lines, details, equipment/wire schedules, etc.
Duties and Responsibilities:
We are seeking an experienced Electrical CAD Drafter to join our team. As an Electrical CAD Drafter at Westwood, you will play a vital role in the design and construction of renewable energy projects. Your responsibilities will include:
- Utilizing AutoCAD to create accurate and detailed electrical construction drawings, including site layouts, wire/cable routing plans, one lines, details, equipment/wire schedules, etc.
- Collaborate with our diverse design team, including civil engineers, geotechnical engineers, and surveyors, to ensure seamless integration of electrical designs.
- Translate complex electrical concepts into clear and concise drawings, including site layouts, wire/cable routing plans, one lines, details, equipment/wire schedules, and more.
- Perform quantity takeoffs and create wiring/cable schedules based on input from senior designers/engineers, ensuring the smooth flow of energy throughout the project.
- Maintain awareness and adherence to Westwood’s design and CAD standards, ensuring the highest quality and accuracy in our deliverables.
Required Skills:
- Prior experience using AutoCAD with a strong understanding of electrical design principles
- Knowledge of NEC and/or NESC codes
- Associates Degree or Technical School Certificate in Electrical Design, Solar Design, Architectural/Engineering Drafting, or a related field
- Approximately 1-4 years of experience in drafting/design of electrical power/distribution systems
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
- Proficiency with Microsoft Windows/Office products
- Professional appearance with excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and ability to balance multiple projects under tight deadlines
Required Experience:
- Associates Degree or Technical School Certificate in Electrical Design, Solar Design, Architectural/Engineering Drafting, or related degree
- Approximately 1 – 4 years of experience in the drafting/design of electrical power/distribution systems
- Working knowledge and ability to read construction drawings and specifications
- Proficiency with Microsoft Windows/Office products
- Professional appearance with excellent written and verbal communications skills
- Must have a strong work ethic along with a positive attitude
- Must be a supportive team member, able to work in a collaborative environment.
- Must be self-motivated with an ability to balance multiple projects under tight deadlines
Preferred Experience:
- Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D and ArcGIS
- Proficiency with software packages like ETAP, SKM, CYME for electrical power system modeling and analysis
- NABCEP certification
- Experience with wind AC collection design and energy storage systems
- Familiarity with PV production modeling software such as PVsyst, Helioscope, SAM, etc.
- Experience with Helios 3D or SunDAT
- Experience with Homer Pro
