Role Summary

Sherwood is currently seeking an Electrical and Controls Engineer to support our growing, progressive and dynamic civil and environmental engineering firm. The Electrical and Controls Engineer will work as an integral part of Sherwoods Water/Wastewater team, reporting directly to the Principal in Charge. This candidate will be asked to develop, review and consult on new system control architecture, process instrumentation and controls, control narratives and electrical and controls integration of treatment processes. We are seeking an individual who demonstrates a strong professional skill set, who can work productively as a member of a multidisciplinary team, work independently, and develop clear, evidence-based solutions.

Minimum Skills

  • Typically 10+ years of professional experience
  • Undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field, or equivalent combination of work experience, training and related education
  • Ability to design and oversee the start-up and commissioning of process control equipment, components, and/or systems
  • Demonstrated ability to create process and instrumentation diagrams, points lists and control narratives
  • Experience creating operations and maintenance manuals
  • Understanding of PLC wiring and programming
  • Proficiency in working with 4-20mA analog loops
  • Ability to read and modify electrical schematics
  • Basic familiarity with NEC standards
  • Familiarity with calibrating and programming instruments
  • Basic networking capabilities and understanding of virtualized systems and servers
  • High proficiency with Windows Operating Systems and associated packages including Excel, Word, and Visio

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in a consulting environment
  • Familiarity with SCADA/HMI programming platforms such as iFix, Wonderware, Factory Talk Ignition, and RedLion
  • Familiarity with IEC 61131-3 languages
  • Understanding of telemetry systems utilizing UHF, VHF, ISM 900, and IEC 802.11xx
  • Certifications such as Security+, CASP+, OSCP, CEH, CPENT, CISA or CISSP
  • Background In Object-Oriented programming such as Python and C++

Expected Outcomes

  • Development of new system control architectures and site infrastructure, including preparation of and/or review and consultation on:
    • Process and Instrumentation Drawings
    • Process Control Narratives
    • Process Specifications
    • Monitoring Instrument and Pump Selections
    • Electrical Site Plans (generation of plans for smaller projects, review, and consultation on larger projects)
  • Review of RFI and Submittals related to the above
  • Development and/or consultation on upgrades, retrofits, and repairs of existing control systems
  • Consult on electrical power budgets and power distribution infrastructure plans
  • Field programming of monitoring instruments
  • Design, setup, and configuration of data communication networks
  • Troubleshooting and debugging of system issues

Compensation:

The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to: skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. At Sherwood Design Engineers, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $115,000 to $140,000. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled.
