The Distribution Mechanic I is responsible for maintaining and repairing all equipment, piping systems, valves, and machinery at our power plant located in Baltimore, Maryland. This is a full-time hourly position and reports to the Maintenance Manager.
Responsibilities
1. Maintain safe working conditions in accordance with established Company policies
2. Identify, report and/or correct unsafe work environments
3. Assures compliance with all applicable environmental regulations
4. Install, repair, replace, and trouble shoot piping systems, valves, traps, pumps
5. Must be able to fabricate piping from layouts blueprints, and mechanical drawings
6. Interpret welding specifications, standards and procedures and work unsupervised to complete assignments.
7. Perform welding tasks and various mechanical duties which may include repairs on steam equipment.
8. Operate all hand/power tools in a competent manner
9. Repair and install utility production and distribution systems such as: chillers, boilers, hot water/steam/chilled water distribution and their sub-systems.
10. Participate in mandatory training sessions related to Utility systems.
11. Act as mentor and conduct on-the-job training of personnel.
12. Perform preventive maintenance as scheduled
13. Respond to emergency situations immediately and work quickly to correct the problem(s).
14. Demonstrated ability to communicate orally and in writing
15. Perform other duties as assigned by Distribution Manager
16. Must further welding skills, as the need for such welding specifications is required by the department
17. Takes rotating, on-call (beeper) on weekends, back shifts, and holidays
18. Must be able to work overtime as required
Qualifications and Experience
Required Qualifications:
1. HS Diploma or GED
2. 5-10 years of experience in an industrial maintenance setting
3. 3-5 years of pipefitting experience
4. 2-4 high pressure steam experience
5. Ability to work with minimum supervision
6. Ability to perform basic computer operations and use email
7. Ability to read and follow blueprints, operation, and maintenance manuals
8. Demonstrated proficiency as a Mechanic 2
9. Ability to create field sketches of piping systems
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Valid MD 1st or 2nd Grade Stationary Engineers License
2. 6G welding Certification
3. Plate weld certification
4. Rigging certification
Physical Requirements
1. Ability to lift and maneuver up to and including 50 pounds
2. Ability to work in confined spaces
3. Ability to climb and tolerate heights up to 100 feet
4. Must complete pre-employment screenings including a company physical exam and respirator fit test in addition to drug testing
5. Must be able to walk, stand, lift, climb, bend, kneel, stoop, and/or reach
6. Ability to tolerate heat
7. Must possess a valid drivers license and insurable by Companys vehicle insurance carrier
