Position Summary:

The Director of State and Local Government is responsible for comprehending the dynamics of Energy Efficiency at the local, state, and federal levels. This role primarily involves developing relationships within the state to position Walker-Miller for projects funded by federal and state dollars. The Director will create value streams by understanding where funding is flowing. The ideal candidate should be a subject matter expert in all funding opportunities within their state of residence.

Essential Responsibilities: This list of duties and responsibilities is not all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities, as management may deem necessary from time to time.

  • Embrace and operate within the core values.
  • Engraining themselves within the state and local communities within the region that they represent.
  • Developing relationships with stakeholders with the aim of bringing Walker-Miller into the forefront of the minds of that state and its stakeholders – especially decision makers / influencers within the state large municipalities that we are targeting.
  • Develop an understanding of the landscape and the opportunities within the region (states) they represent, bringing that information back to the BD team in a way that is actionable.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Resides in one of the states that they are covering, those states ideally border each other.
  • 10+ years of experience working in the Energy Efficiency / Electrification / Building Decarbonization space.
  • Ideally some cross-functional experience. For example, someone who has either worked for an org like W-M that is in multiple spaces or has worked for multiple orgs with a range of knowledge.
  • Very high emotional intelligence – proficient at code switching (i.e. able to speak and develop meaningful relationships with both a block club captain and a state energy official)
  • Critical thinking and ability to identify synergies based on stakeholder engagement.
  • Excellent communicator – written and verbal.
