Job Description

Empact Technologies is a rapidly scaling clean energy SaaS startup dedicated to enabling the energy transition.

Our software platform and services empower solar, energy storage, wind, and other clean energy developers to maximize their share of the $1T Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) tax incentives by ensuring regulatory compliance and protecting tax credit investors from IRS recapture audit risk.

We are building an incredible company and are seeking a Director of Engineering to lead our talented engineering team and accelerate our product leadership. This full-time role offers the opportunity to collaborate closely with the company’s leadership team as we scale our technology and operations to support a rapidly growing user base.

As the Director of Engineering, you will scale and manage a diverse engineering team, including architects, front-end developers, back-end developers, and DevOps professionals. This role will initially operate as a player-coach, combining management responsibilities with hands-on software development tasks to drive the team’s success. Your leadership will ensure that we deliver high-quality products on time and within scope while playing a crucial role in refining our development processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Team Leadership: Oversee and mentor the engineering team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability.
  • Product Delivery: Drive the team to deliver quality products by managing timelines, setting milestones, and ensuring adherence to project deadlines.
  • Hiring & Performance Management: Lead recruitment efforts to attract top talent and manage team performance through regular evaluations and feedback
  • Process Optimization: Organize and manage our Jira board and development processes to ensure efficient workflows and clear communication within the team.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the Chief Architect, Senior Product Manager, and CEO to align engineering efforts with product vision and company goals.
  • Reporting: Provide regular updates on progress to executives during executive meetings, ensuring alignment and transparency across teams.
  • Scalability: Develop strategies for scaling the engineering team and processes as the company grows.
  • Third-Party Management: Oversee the engagement and management of contractors and third-party firms as needed, ensuring that they meet project requirements and adhere to our quality standards. Collaborate with external teams to integrate their contributions effectively while maintaining alignment with Empact’s goals and timelines.

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of software engineering experience.
  • 5+ years leading teams, with proven experience as a Director of Engineering or in a similar leadership role within a tech startup.
  • Strong background in software engineering principles and practices, with experience managing diverse technical teams.
  • Proficiency in JavaScript, HTML, and Bootstrap, along with familiarity with AGILE methodologies and project management tools, especially Jira.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire team members.
  • Experience in hiring and performance management of engineering talent.
  • A highly motivated individual with a “can-do” attitude and a proven drive to succeed.
  • Values honesty, integrity, openness, and a willingness to learn.
  • Ability to balance teamwork and independence, contributing high-quality work while fostering a collaborative environment.
  • Education: BS or higher in Computer Science or a related field

Although Empact is fully remote, candidates in Texas or Colorado would be preferred. Candidates must be living in the US – no international located candidates at this time – thanks.
