About This Opportunity We are seeking a Director of Business Development – Corporate. This director-level business development and sales role is tasked with building strong relationships with prospective and existing Cascade industrial sector clients and industry partners, gauging customer needs, formulating proposals for services, closing sales, and executing a successful handoff of these sales to appropriate staff within Cascade for delivery of energy efficiency and decarbonization services across an industrial organization’s enterprise.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Own the overall business strategy and execution of the tactical sales plans to increase sales of decarbonization and energy efficiency services to corporate-direct industrial organizations throughout the U.S. market.
  • Engage client senior leadership to identify and sell new business opportunities for Cascade Energy by understanding their sustainability and decarbonization objectives, or other drivers as relevant to the Cascade Energy suite of services.
  • Expand work with existing customers to include additional services, products, sites, or facility types.
  • Develop and grow strategic alliances with partner companies to provide additional channels to market and enhance Cascade’s value proposition to industrial customers.
  • Work collaboratively with the Corporate Energy Management team to develop and employ strategies to gain insight into potential customers for identification of the best service offerings.
  • Employ sales best practices and professionalism, including timely meeting follow ups, documented call reports into the CRM, team collaboration, and ongoing pipeline management.
  • Contribute to RFP submissions by providing program data, statistics, and other pertinent information, including suggestions for innovation, updates, and additions to our services.
  • Maintain and foster positive, on‐going customer relationships, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction from start‐up through handoff to the delivery team.
  • Collaborate with the Customer Engagement and Market Development teams to identify and prioritize marketing and sales activities that highlight Cascade services and successes to prospective customers.
  • Leverage customer facing Cascade staff to convert industrial customers in Cascade-provided, utility-funded services into corporate-direct service customers.
  • Represent Cascade as a subject matter expert at large industry partner conferences, association events, and participate as a speaker as required.
  • Collaborate with Cascade’s Strategy and Products team to share insight on customer needs and pain points to assist in customer and product development around new Cascade services, including software and technology-oriented solutions.

This is a full-time, exempt position with preference to those residing close to a major airport in the US. Travel is anticipated to be about 50 days per year for in-person visitation with key business and association contacts and participation in key industry events, conferences, and meetings.

Qualifications

Applicants for this role are required to have:

  • 6+ years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 5+ years of business development experience and/or experience selling complex professional services to senior leadership of multi-site enterprises
  • Demonstrated ability in problem solving and negotiation with special emphasis on closing the sale
  • Project management experience, preferably in energy efficiency or related industry

A successful candidate should also demonstrate these preferred characteristics and/or skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, comfortable with people at all levels of an organization, from corporate executives to facility maintenance managers
  • An understanding of the sales process at corporate enterprises for professional services as well as typical barriers to this process and techniques for working through these barriers
  • Exceptional skills in sales and business development, including formal presentation skills before both small and large groups and engagement with client senior leadership
  • A strong grasp of client financial metrics and the use of these metrics to sell‐in projects to key decision makers
  • Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to adeptly juggle multiple projects, program offerings, customers, deadlines, and demands
  • Proficiency in any of the following: decarbonization strategies, energy management services, energy efficiency, ESG consulting, industrial engineering, technical consulting
  • Strong relationship-building abilities with both clients and internal teams
  • Experience in developing and managing budgets
  • Advanced level knowledge of MS Office and the ability to quickly learn other software programs

Compensation & Benefits

Our total rewards include competitive pay and excellent benefits. These include health (90% paid for team member, 70% paid for dependents on HDHP plans and 85% paid for team member, 65% paid for dependents on PPO plans), vision, FSA or HSA options with an employer contribution, life insurance, short- and long-term disability insurance, paid parental leave, 401k retirement plan with a guaranteed 3% contribution, Employee Stock Ownership Program (ESOP), annual cash performance bonus, paid vacation, sick time, and an inclusive, flexible paid holiday policy. New for 2024 – we are excited to add an additional wellbeing contribution of $500 for HSA, FSA, or LSA (Lifestyle Spending Account).

The salary range for this position in Portland OR is $110,000 – $140,000 and total compensation includes base salary plus a variable compensation structure (not commission based) . Final base salary will be geographically adjusted depending on where the candidate actually resides . Final salary offered may also vary depending on non-discriminatory factors such as job-related knowledge, skills, and experiences if different than the above.
