Job Description

Position Summary:

The Director, Engineering is directly accountable for leading Navisun’s Engineering team in the timely completion of all stages of solar project design and engineering assigned to any member on the Engineering team within budget, safety standards, and regulatory guidelines. This role is responsible for project planning, resource allocation, budget management, and coordinating between different departments. The Director, Engineering will provide leadership, guidance, and support to the project team to ensure successful project execution.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop and build out an internal Engineering team at Navisun capable of supporting all aspects of the organization, from site identification through commercial operation.
  • Collaborate and manage interactions across all organization verticals (Business Development, Self-Development, Construction, Asset Management, and Finance) and prioritize internal and external resource planning to ensure effective project execution and budget management.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including engineering firms, vendors, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
  • Manage the design, optimization, and engineering of projects at all stages of the design lifecycle, from site identification through commercial operations.
  • Develop internal design specifications and process controls to ensure compliance with all specifications
  • Review and approve engineering designs, technical specifications, and project documentation.
  • Ensure project accuracy from all internal Engineering team members and Engineers of Record (EORs) before allowing any project to continue through the pipeline.
  • Review full construction drawing sets and engineering specifications for projects during permitting, interconnection, and construction.
  • Maintain and track engineering budgets, reporting any cost changes.
  • Sustain compliance with and continuity between Project Agreements (EPC, PPA, Leases, Interconnection Agreements) by effectively managing engineering firms and equipment vendors, ensuring that the project as described in permit plans and contracts remains technically and economically feasible.
  • Coordinate with design vendors for the creation of solar design packages and corresponding BOMs to meet functional, performance, safety, and cost requirements.
  • Respond to contractor submittals, AHJ reviews, and RFIs according to project requirements, codes, client goals, and our business interest.
  • Implement and refine engineering QA/QC processes to efficiently produce repeatable, reliable solar and storage projects during all stages of a project lifecycle.
  • Foster a culture of teamwork, innovation, and knowledge sharing within the engineering department.
  • Provide feedback and recommendations on existing partnerships to drive continuous improvement goals.
  • Act as an advocate for Navisun, LLC in a professional manner by promoting all company policies and procedures, exuding a positive attitude towards the goals of each.
  • Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or related area with working knowledge within several fields of engineering
  • 7+ years of demonstrated technical engineering experience
  • 5+ years of demonstrated technical experience with PV and energy storage projects and PV modeling tools; Distributed Generation experience highly sought
  • 5+ years of management experience leading a team
  • Excellent in Helioscope, AutoCAD, PVSyst, PVCase, Smartsheets, Procore, and Microsoft Office 360 Suite
  • Strong understanding of permitting and interconnection processes
  • Strong understanding of renewable energy project financing methods
