Titan America has an excellent opportunity for a Drafting Designer to join our Corporate Engineering Division supporting the Project Management Office. This position will assist project engineers with AutoCAD, related tasks to facilitate the creation of CAD files and drawing packages for various projects. This position will report directly to the Corporate Director of the Project Management Office at the Corporate Engineering of Titan America.

The position will be in Roanoke, Virginia.

Responsibilities include:

  • Proficiency in CAD software and good knowledge of 3D scanning and modelling tools.
  • Create and modify 3D model.
  • Using CAD software and modelling tools to create rough sketches as well as detailed drawings (including plans, elevations, sections, and connection details)
  • Complete site layouts based on project specifications.
  • Estimating material quantities and costs.
  • Use predesigned templates to complete construction drawing packages.
  • Develop databases and/or libraries to optimize re-use of existing data.
  • Setting up drawing formats and configuration files.
  • Assist in the development of design standards.
  • Being able to evaluate the topography of a site to recommend areas requiring grading.
  • Evaluate vendors and contractors’ proposals for alignment with project Request for Proposal in terms of design/drawings.
  • Evaluate vendor and contractors’ submittals for alignment with project specifications and completeness of information needs in terms of design/drawings.
  • Identify, communicate, and explore solutions to design challenges, conflicts, and clashes.
  • Issue and record drawing submittals and revisions, and Requests for Information.
  • Research design codes related to project requirements.
  • Demonstrating knowledge of MSHA and OSHA Regulations as they pertain to the plants we serve.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time.

Qualifications and experience:

  • Associate degree or bachelor’s degree or 5-10 years of similar and relevant experience required. Experience in the cement industry or other heavy industrial applications preferred.
  • Working knowledge of CAD software and 3D scanning and modeling tools
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Knowledge of engineering design principles
  • Self-motivated, willing/able to take initiative, works well with others in a team environment.
  • Diligent organizational skills and proven ability to simultaneously work on several fast-paced projects.

  • Interpersonal skills to work within a team, taking direction from Project Managers and Engineers
  • Design management skills to complete error-free work within the required timeframe.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities to develop creative solutions.
