As the Deputy General Counsel, you will play a crucial role in providing legal support, guidance, and expertise to the organization. You will work closely with the General Counsel and other stakeholders to navigate complex legal matters and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Responsibilities:

  • Legal Advice and Support: Provide accurate and timely legal advice and guidance on a wide range of legal issues related to renewable energy, including project development, contracts, regulatory compliance, intellectual property, environmental, and employment matters.
  • Contracts and Agreements: Review, draft, negotiate, and finalize various contracts and agreements, such as power purchase agreements, equipment supply agreements, joint venture agreements, construction contracts, and other commercial agreements, ensuring compliance with legal and business requirements.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Stay up-to-date with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards pertaining to renewable energy, and provide proactive legal advice and support to ensure compliance at all levels of the organization.
  • Due Diligence: Conduct comprehensive legal due diligence for potential projects, investments, and acquisitions, including assessing risks, identifying legal issues, and providing strategic recommendations to support decision-making processes.
  • Policy and Advocacy: Monitor and analyze legislative and regulatory developments in the renewable energy sector, participate in industry associations, and contribute to the development of company policies and positions to influence favorable outcomes for the organization.
  • Dispute Resolution: Assist in managing legal disputes, including litigation and arbitration matters, by providing strategic advice, coordinating with external legal counsel, and representing the company’s interests to achieve favorable resolutions.
  • Training and Compliance Programs: Develop and deliver training programs on legal and compliance matters to internal stakeholders, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of legal requirements and promoting a culture of compliance throughout the organization.
  • Legal Research: Conduct legal research and analysis on various topics related to renewable energy, emerging legal issues, and best practices, and communicate findings to internal stakeholders in a clear and concise manner.

Qualifications:

  • J.D. from an accredited law school; member in good standing of at least one state bar
  • Minimum of 7 years of legal experience in a law firm, in-house legal department, or relevant government agency, with a focus on renewable energy, environmental law, or energy project development.
  • Strong knowledge of renewable energy industry regulations, contracts, and financing structures.
  • Demonstrated expertise in drafting and negotiating complex commercial agreements related to renewable energy projects.
  • Excellent understanding of environmental and regulatory frameworks relevant to renewable energy, such as permitting, land use, and environmental impact assessments.
  • Ability to work independently, handle multiple priorities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders in a clear and concise manner.
