Job Purpose

Our client is seeking an experienced Controller to join their team. The Controller will have overall responsibility for the accounting department, including general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and financial reporting. Successful candidates will have demonstrated experience managing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, supervising and mentoring accounting staff, preparing financial statements, and interacting with external auditors and tax advisors. Additionally, candidates must have experience in the design, documentation, and implementation of internal control procedures.

This role reports directly to the Vice President of Finance, offers the opportunity to work closely with business leaders across the organization, and has regular exposure to the executive team.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Oversee all accounting and financial reporting activities for the company.
  • Hire, train, and mentor staff, ensuring adequate cross-training for department continuity.
  • Establish and maintain accounting policies to ensure compliance with US GAAP and all applicable federal and state laws and regulations.
  • Oversee the monthly and quarterly financial close process.
  • Ensure the timely and accurate preparation of US GAAP financial statements.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with the external audit firm and ensure coordination to meet established timelines and deliverables.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal and state income, property, sales and use, and other tax laws to allow for timely and accurate filing of all required returns.
  • Act as the subject-matter expert for the company’s ERP system and ensure the company maximizes the utilization of its capabilities.
  • Develop, implement, and ensure adequate documentation of processes in all accounting department functions with a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with the VP of Finance and other senior management members in designing, documenting, and implementing internal controls for SOX readiness.
  • Assist in the preparation of the annual operating plan, interacting with each site and department across the organization.
  • Establish and foster excellent relationships with team members across departments and locations to promote open and timely communication.
  • Provide financial information to management, investors, and lenders in support of capital raising and other business objectives.
  • Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as required by the supervisor and other executives.

Education, Experience, and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.
  • Active CPA license in Florida.
  • Minimum of four years of experience within the accounting function of a mid-sized organization with demonstrated growing levels of responsibility.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in the audit practice of a public accounting firm.
  • Deep understanding of US GAAP and SEC rules and regulations; knowledge of IFRS is a plus.
  • Advanced experience managing and extracting data from multi-entity ERP systems; experience with SAGE Intacct is a plus.
  • Strong MS Excel and PowerPoint skills; PowerBI experience is a plus.
  • Demonstrated sense of urgency, focus, and accountability.
  • Keen business acumen and ability to understand key drivers within the business.
  • Ability to translate complex accounting and financial reporting concepts to others in the organization to provide decision-useful information.
  • Excellent oral/written communication and presentation skills, with a proven ability to build relationships.
  • Excels in a dynamic fast-paced environment and is comfortable with ambiguity.
  • Strategic, analytical, critical thinking ability.
  • Sound decision-making skills.
  • Experience supporting multiple business units.
  • Construction, Manufacturing, and/or Energy industry experience desired.
  • International experience is a plus.
