Summary Description

The Construction Manager is responsible for all management of all aspects of operations, construction, safety, and risk across a project or multiple projects being delivered. This is a key position for the business and will form part of the Senior Management Team who assess how the business is performing and delivering Solar PV and BESS (Battery Energy Storage System) construction projects. Because this position is responsible for the project’s end product, they must have a deep understanding of each phase of the construction process, including: sub-contracts review, budget review, scheduling, site development, civil, Photovoltaic architectural design, understanding of the electrical aspects of the projects, and blueprinting.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Oversite of all aspects of construction project/s from contracts, engineering, and planning, to implementation and delivery to customer
  • Supervision of all project management and field management personnel, subcontractors, and key personnel on site. Management of construction activities related to assigned projects from start to finish.
  • Resolution of immediate issues as they arise and as are associated with plans and specifications, unknown existing conditions, or conflicts with both subcontractors and/or vendors by utilization of the engineering and construction teams in their proper capacity.
  • Organization and management of staff, contractors, and schedules for construction projects.
  • Preparation and/or review of documentation such as: SOW, prime and subcontracts, purchase orders, reports, and budgets.
  • Oversight and provision of input for budgets that are developed and managed by the project manager to include tracking metrics as associated with KPIs.
  • Oversight and close interaction with the site and upper management teams to coordinate the expected daily activities and production rates of field production and operational teams in advance
  • Delegation of production assignments to appropriate teams and personnel
  • Management of multiple projects at various phases and in various locations
  • Assist project manager in negotiating with subcontractors to receive reasonable order costs
  • Management of vendors who are providing services consistently throughout the project cycle
  • Provision of estimates for civil, mechanical, or structural work as needed and where applicable for preliminary project budgets
  • Provision of daily and weekly progress updates to commercial team and executive members
  • Tracking of savings opportunities and cost avoidance situations
  • Maintenance and enforcement of good construction standards and quality control
  • Mentorship of project field staff and promotion of internal and external team building and maintenance of morale.
  • Flexibility with respect to ever-changing conditions
  • Integration with clients and promotion of a positive client experience throughout the life cycle of a project
  • Performance of site visits to perspective project sites, where necessary and as coordinated by the team, in response to RFP or other special requests made
  • Work closely with the Director of Construction to facilitate standards for cost effective material selection, equipment, and installation processes and procedures
  • Maintain and harness close relationships with representatives of authorities having jurisdiction

Competencies

  • Has thorough knowledge of civil earthwork, concrete, asphalt paving, underground utility, grading and drainage, structural, and mechanical construction as related to utility-scale solar PV and battery energy storage solutions
  • Has knowledge and understanding of contracts and exhibits within a contract
  • Has knowledge of and the ability to draft technical submittals
  • Competent in commissioning procedures related to solar PV energy centers
  • Understands and is competent in OSHA 29-CFR 1926 (Safety and Health Regulations for Construction)
  • Communicates safety philosophies and values of Affordable Solar Installation, Inc. with safety manager, superintendents, and project managers to ensure understanding, compliance and acceptance of the companys safety programs and policies.
  • Conducts regular safety audits of assigned construction project. Identifies, documents and recommends abatement of hazardous/potentially hazardous conditions
  • Represents the company during insurance and OSHA inspections.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Supervision of all key project site personnel and subcontractors to include: Site superintendent, Electrical Superintendent, Mechanical Superintendent, Commissioning Staff, Quality Control and Quality Assurance staff, Site Security
  • Supervision of project site administrative staff
  • Supervision of project site temporary staffing agency managers and contract employees
  • Supervision of project site safety management team
  • Supervision of project site Procurement team leads

Work Enviornment

  • The Construction Manager will work in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment. During construction, the CM will be subject to the outside elements 75% of the day as the remaining 25% of the day will be dedicated to planning and administrative duties with support of the team. While not in the construction phase; the CM will be performing duties associated with project and personnel development efforts.

Expected Hours Of Work

  • The Construction Manager Position is a salaried exempt position. The position will be expected to work a minimum of 40-hours per work week, although in the construction environment, it is not uncommon to work 50 or more hours in a given week dependent upon the current conditions.

Travel

  • Frequent travel and long-term temporary residence near project sites are a requirement for this position. Frequent/weekly opportunities to travel home will be provided.

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES)

  • 10+ years construction experience (Required).
  • 5+ years people management experience (Required).
  • Ability to recognize hazardous situations and implement corrective measures.
  • Understanding of both residential and commercial construction industry
  • Must understand construction terms, scheduling and planning concepts
  • Able to work in fast-paced, environment dealing with multiple team members
  • Ability to adjust personnel and equipment resources as needed to resolve construction problems and to avoid project delays.
  • Strong leadership qualities
  • Highly organized with excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Must be willing to travel
